Quote of the Day – September 10 2012

“That’s what learning is, after all; not whether we lose the game, but how we lose and how we’ve changed because of it, and what we take away from it that we never had before, to apply to other games. Losing, in a curious way is winning.”
― Richard Bach

In martial arts you learn the most when you go against someone more accomplished and you lose. Chess is very much the same way. Sometimes in life, we have to lose our way to superior forces in order to become strong enough to win. At the very least, in our life when things don’t go our way, we learn and there is always a gift that lesson that lies within the situation.

  1. As a biker I always tell new riders that they can improve by riding with more experienced riders. Seeing the success of those around us show us what we can do. Of course with riding motorcycles you don’t want to fail or lose but it’s true that in so many things in life it’s perspective. If you consider that getting beat by an opponent in a game is a way to grow than you have won.

    1. Agreed, but in riding hopefully the mistakes (losses?) are there to be learned from. Luckily most of the training is there to show how to recover from mistakes. Thanks 🙂

  2. Today, in my Tai Chi class I lost my concentration. I forgot where I was. My teacher gently touched me on the shoulder and said, “When you lose your flow, yield completely as a river and return as a mountain”…I’m still pondering this…
