Quote of the Day – October 10 2012

“I’d like to repeat the advice that I gave you before, in that I think you really should make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. ”
— Jon Krakauer

To me this quote has (at least) two meanings. There is an external one that talks about changing one’s circumstances and taking chances and travelling. There is also an  internal one that deals with changing ones landscape and habits… looking at the old sun in a totally new way That I quite like..

  1. We are living in a world that is always in a turmoil, full of accidents. Local or international, repeatedly killings, unreasonable behaviour, silence at moments when you need to be heard..and then you want to be safe..like an Ostrich. otherwise, this daily problems and issues would not let you think, let alone think clearly. So much pressure due to news channels, breaking news is braking us, too many problems just forced on us, not that we should not know what is happening, its just that..its not letting us live, normally. Nowadays, there is no piece of mind , people are part of a global village but unfortunately, we are now again in dark age…look around see the darkness..

  2. A profound quote and I try to live by these words – I challenge my life daily, welcome new suns and take note of how often The Tower appears in my Tarot readings. However, I have been in life situations when these ideas are frightening and risk of change is intimidating and I know that this is the case for the majority of people….

    1. Yes have run afoul of the Tower tho in so many ways it has taught me the most… The Tower reversed disturbs me the most as it means to me that I may have to repeat the lesson until I learn it well.
