“The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die. As well the minds which are prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be mind.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
Why do we stick to positions? It seems that no matter how open-minded we are, we hit a point on something like politics or religion or the right way to crack eggs and we decide “Here I stand. I won’t change, no way, no how” and no matter what new evidence comes up, they dismiss rather than look at either themselves or the other side of the discussion. I don’t quite get it. I mean, one of my key principles is that last line in the Messiah’s Handbook in Richard Bach’s Illusions . “Everything in this book may be wrong” I have opinions but can usually see the other side or at least acknowledge that it exists. I can understand having blind spots but I can’t understand not being willing to look at them.

Knight of Pentacles by G A Rosenberg
Namaste G,
I enjoyed Richard Bach’s ‘Jonathan Livingston Seagull’, the little movie they did and the music. I love this piece of music. RB’s work was introduced to me by a very nice friend from Switzerland. RB is a very gentle soul. Hope that he’ll recover from the plane crash very soon.
Wishing you and yours, beautiful sunshine and a joyful weekend.
Much blessings,
Agnes
As do I, I have been a fan of Mr. Bach’s writing for so long, particularly Illusions, before your comment i had not heard of his accident
His love for flying took a dive when he flew into power lines recently. I feel that he should stop flying or do something about his eyesight. I worry more when he’s driving … if he’s too proud to get his eyes checked out…. just sharing some thots about his illusions of being ‘perfect’ in his own dream and forgot to double check his current reality on 3D.
Knight of Pentacles – superb. I think people stick to positions because it takes energy to be open minded and so many exhaust their energy on sheer survival or mindless entertainment to salve the boredom or agony of the working day….
Yes for sure, tho in the end how to shake them / ourselves loose to the point of breaking past that…
