Wise Enough to Play the Fool

“This fellow is wise enough to play the fool;
And to do that well craves a kind of wit:
He must observe their mood on whom he jests,
The quality of persons, and the time,
And, like the haggard, check at every feather
That comes before his eye. This is a practise
As full of labour as a wise man’s art
For folly that he wisely shows is fit;
But wise men, folly-fall’n, quite taint their wit.”
― William Shakespeare

So the fool writes on. Working with the tarot and especially on the Fool Trump entry, I can see the wisdom in Shakespeare’s words. As a writer and artist constantly looking for feedback and wanting to use it to inform and not control my creative decisions I really get it. Not so much, “They don’t like the dark stuff I should go back to angels and sacred religious symbolism or pretty designs” as “Maybe I am not yet communicating these thoughts / images in a way that people can relate to” This blog is a dance of communication because by the time I get feedback on it it has been completed and so I gage moods, both that of my audience and what they have liked before and my own, what I may need to communicate at any given time. It can be a delicate dance but always a worthwhile one.
Blessings, G

  1. Most beautiful. Though complete. The second one strikes me as delightful. The top one beautiful except the scary face that Freud would say only exists in my mind. A good quote from Shakespeare. It’s interesting, but I am actually beginning to understand him without having to work hard on figuring him out. How bizarre how awareness and perception works and matures into a wider understanding, Not liking the dark stuff doesn’t mean it ceases to exist and it should be contained in your work for in belongs where ever it invades the all parts of the world and one’s psyche. The balance is needed to give full meaning to what you create, If leaving out the darkness, then how do you show its contrast in the light? Just a thought to think. Hi G. I am still trying to structure my life. Getting better at it. Missed visiting you. Will do better. Try really hard. This is a favorite place for me. Your art’s dimension keep growing. Jk 😎

    1. Thank you as always for your thoughts and your good wishes.. Glad things are coming together for you. Or perhaps they have been together and you are realizing it more.
