River Currents – A Consciousness Stream

“Eventually all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.

— Norman Maclean

From Mountains to Prairies and now to the banks of a river tho all along the river has flowed through washing many emotions along with it. Wounded pride and fear is in there along with love, hope and family. Currents of patience flows in and out leaving me somewhat exhausted by the tidal pull. So many things I believed I have outgrown come washing up on the banks of my inner river tho they will either decompose in the wind and sunlight or be carried further to wash up again. Positive things flow through. Love and inner knowledge and a certain wistfulness all get caught up in currents and eddys. As long as I give nothing a chance to cling it will be fine.
The river has always offered me wisdom and even now it whispers. Let it go… I am always here and will always be.. the river within and without…

Shadows of Home Along the Road

““When within yourself you find the road, the right road will open.”
― Dejan Stojanovic, The Creator

The road inside lies ever homeward
with shadows of home along the way
Approximations of the final resting place
that may be settled into for a time
yet never fulfilling the heart
Our true home keeps calling
filling the settled self with longing
for the shadow while comforting never satisfies
I will depart the shadows with love for their gifts
and move onward
my bag filled with shadow memories
Along the way I will pass more shades
that my road inward throws up
and my bag will lighten and fill
and then empty again
as my terminus approaches

Expanding As Far As the Eye Can See

“The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds.”
–William James

Today in our travels, we moved past the mountains and into big sky country. Where the mountain seems to contract its energy to better expand life on its surface, the prairies expand as far as the eye can see. The colours seem almost monochromatic at first and then you see amazing shading, detail and variety. My outlook on this trip also seems to contract and then expand, first withdrawing inward until needed and then forcing myself outward to talk to strangers in restaurants, to interact with my family and to enjoy everything external to me. If I have the internalized energy of the mountain, I need to balance it with my ever expanding prairie sense and realize that they are two facets of the same stone.

Mountain As Metaphor

“For I am I:ergo, the truth of myself; my own sphinx, conflict, chaos, vortex–asymmetric to all rhythms, oblique to all paths. I am the prism between black and white: mine own unison in duality.”
— Autsin Osman Spare

I spent today driving through the mountains of British Columbia with my family. I got caught up in thinking of mountains as metaphor. There is the slow climb up and then the drop down into the valley. Dual quests that bring us ever further. More so tho I try to relate to the mountain. That vital energy that lives within the solid rock that can burn so fiercely and ultimately sustains life on the surface of the mountain. So much lies within me. I feel the climbs and the descents and that ever present burning, yearning for life that produces all that I show on my surface. How can I be true to my mountain self? Another lesson to learn for mountains are ever patient enduring cycle after cycle, within and without.

Belonging — Wings and Shadow

“Belonging is a comfortable strait jacket with wings to fly.”
— Nolan Void

What we belong to grounds us. We surrender part of ourselves to the families, groups and relationships we form and in the process we discover ourselves. We find where we fit and where we don’t. We see the shadow of ourselves reflected in the eyes of those we love. When we don’t like what we are seeing, it is time to look within and discover what is it we dislike in ourselves that causes the reaction? What has brought us here? When we feel love and grounded and safe, our dreams can soar and we can realize more than we could realize any other way. Thank you my loved ones for the wings and the grounding. My life would be poorer without you.

Falling

“We’re in a freefall into future. We don’t know where we’re going. Things are changing so fast, and always when you’re going through a long tunnel, anxiety comes along. And all you have to do to transform your hell into a paradise is to turn your fall into a voluntary act. It’s a very interesting shift of perspective and that’s all it is… joyful participation in the sorrows and everything changes.”
― Joseph Campbell

Falling
aimlessly down the well
of my own failings
Have I lost my way or tripped?
Where will I land?
Flailing
trying desperately to undo
what has led me here
Can I find my way back to
where I was before?
Floating
resigned to the crashing end
and feeling peace
Hasn’t all led me to this?
Isn’t this natural?
Flying
triumphantly driving my way down
and making it happen
Have I found liberation?
What can happen next?

Reflecting and Absorbing Self

“You’re just an imitation of what is around you, it’s just that you don’t imitate one person; you take bits and pieces of hundred people and make yourself.”
—Sadhguru

My sense of humour came from her.
Sharp sardonic reflections
on what goes on around me.
My logical mind came from two others.
The desire to understand has come from so many.
I got my smile from the girl next door
My personality is a matrix
of lives that have touched on mine
Each somehow reflects the spirit within while it reflects the world around me
My external being shifts as the people around me changes. Ive always been somewhat spongelike in that way
absorbing the traits and reflecting the nearby foibles
while somehow staying true to my inner being.
What responsibility does this give me? Do I surround myself with the best. No, I’ll surround myself with those who will most help me recognize my true being
sunlight and shadow and beyond.
Blessings, G

Mistakes

“I have learned all kinds of things from my many mistakes. The one thing I never learn is to stop making them.”
― Joe Abercrombie

It’s amazing how we can allow our mistakes to swallow us up and keep us prisoners at times. Through action or inaction, word or silence we hurt those whom we would never wish to hurt. We love unwisely or unwell and step on toes. We get caught up in acts of self-destruction. Acts that may seem fun or amusing at times but really even the temptation to do them points to an a blind spot or area of self-loathing we did not realize we had. Sorrow or Regret cannot make up for these errors. About the only thing that can is realizing that we stepped in it, try to understand why. Make amends if we can and if we can’t continue on with acceptance and gratitude for the lesson. Wallowing in regret or sorrow tends to be an excuse to repeat the same mistakes over and over. Learning from it, we honour both those whom we have wronged and ourselves. I know in the future I will continue to make mistakes. Heck I need their gifts.
