New Life From the Detritus of the Old

“Our sufferings do not magically end; instead we are able to wisely alchemically recycle them. they become the abundant waste that we use to make new growth possible.”
— Bell Hooks

No life is lived without challenges. We are tested arduously and elements that we love and cling to eventually turns to compost. We can mourn what we had and lost or we can use the detritus and raise up new lives from the old. We can cultivate lives built on the knowledge that nothing is permanent. We can love anything for the time it is with us and then move on ever manifesting in new ways. Somewhere along the line I had temporarily forgotten this. Because my life has had a newfound stability, I let myself grow complacent. I will not regret the past but create the future I want by my choice and will. Out of the flames the Phoenix emerges and together we will fly!

At the Edges Between Their Tales

“We were the people who were not in the papers. We lived in the blank white spaces at the edges of print. It gave us more freedom. We lived in the gaps between the stories.”
— Margaret Atwood

For the heroes the stories
of honour and discovery
for me the simple existence
I see him return celebrated
and partake
he has grow wiser and bolder
and I continue
sweeping the floor
for crumbs
I have no arc, no quest, no voice
yet the dreams live within
tho none but me knows the beauty therein
as I wake to grey
and dishes
where he trails colour behind him.
yet colour fades
the last bit in my dust bin
as I continue on
soaring silently.

Being Present

“The Tao can never be known until it interprets the most trivial actions of everyday routine. It is a fatal mistake to discriminate between the spiritual importance of meditation and playing golf. To do so is to create an internal conflict. “Let there be no difference made among you between any one thing & any other thing; for thereby there cometh hurt.” He who knows the Tao knows it to be the source of all things soever.”
— Aleister Crowley, from his introduction to the Tao Te Ching

It is easy to feel spiritual and present and focused after a half hour of meditation. Is it as easy to feel that way in a business meeting? How about when taking out the garbage or doing the dishes? So much of our daily modern lives seems spent avoiding what we are doing in the present moment. Either we are planning the evening activities or thinking about the hot man or woman we just saw or our vacation or even how much our arm itches or how soon we need to hit the bathroom. Yet if we see each thing we do as an opportunity to be present, it can lead to all kinds of inner discovery. It can change walking the dog from an arduous chore to something unique and interesting. Paying bills can become sublime if that is what we are doing. It is as if the way we normally do these activities is monochrome and by our mere focus and presence we add colour. I am not suggesting we do this all day every day. I am not sure that this is possible. Yet focusing on being in the moment for at least one or two activities a day will be life changing and enhance our conscious awareness immeasurably.

Everyday Magic in Different Forms

The Artist was the first to convey Desire and Dream to an objective state, he thus manifested the exteriorisation of our earliest fantasies that by the sympathy of Image to Reality they would become True. The role and function of the First Artist and the First Sorcerer are identical and inseparable, that is to fulfill the Dream and bind it to Reality. The more we embrace this primitive function the more effective we become as practitioners of the Arte Magical.’
— Andrew D. Chumbley

I am a cave dweller. Tomorrow I will hunt the wild beast to feed my family. Tonight I draw the animals I will kill on the walls of my home to draw them to me.I will provide and I will live.
I am an oracle. I lay my symbols out in the way I will have the future unfold for my king, for my family and for my home.
I run planning workshops. Tomorrow as my clients discuss what they wish for the future, I will draw out their plans. They will see the images on paper and that will help them to see them out to fruition.
Magic takes many shapes and forms and whether we are aware of it or not, we all practice magick every day whether it be by art or by dreams that we will strong enough to manifest.

A Poetic Metaphor

“Poetry is a journal of a sea animal living on land, wanting to fly the air.”
–Carl Sandburgh

I was once told by a teacher that I reminded him of Sandburgh’s above definition of poetry and this puzzled me for years. On one level I had long ago given up on feeling that there was a place where I belonged and yes I wanted to be everywhere. Once the feeling of home is gone, there is both liberation and terror and sorrow when I realized that I could never go back to where I came from. It had changed to the extent that the feeling of home was gone and I had changed to where I would no longer fit there even if it had stayed frozen and unchanged. I have never been content to stay in one place and when I cannot travel in a physical sense, I travel through imagination into new challenges and new ideas ever trying to reach if not higher than wider. Gradually I understand how what the teacher said applied and eventually I may master all three or perhaps four considering the fire I’ve traveled through to get this far and the further refinement needed to go farther.

Deconstruction

Power is in tearing [the] human mind to pieces and putting [it] together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”
— George Orwell

Distortions in the field
Demons, Angels, gods and men
elemental beings streaming
in and out like breaths
choose an aspect for the moment
and move on
blood roses and wine
drink the dark communion
and the light
which is more filling
fulfilling?
Equations in the offering
divide a sunset over
seven rainbows
and solve for starlight
Book pages and characters
their roles played out
on ever dissolving stages.
Movement in the corner of my eye
animals, gryphons, manticores
sad puppies fighting for the
bones of my remains
sexual ecstasy in every corner
bodies surrendering and taking
what pleasure they can
joyful universe at play
dark imaginings in sleep
and who can tell the difference?

It’s Words and Words Alone…

“…Words…altered the universe. By merely speaking you could create damage and pain, cause tears to fall, drive people away, make yourself feel better, make your life worse.”
— Lev Grossman

The right words spoken at the right moment can prevent war or heartbreak. They can bring joy to someone joyless or hope to someone who is in despair. They can be the cause of union and possibly bring insight and an evolution in thought and spirit. On the other hand other words can start war and cause irreparable rifts. They can lose someone their livelihood and end relationships that have lasted years. We can build walls with words that block out the world or smash the walls down. Words are the purest form of magick and possibly the most powerful. If we learn to use our words carefully, we can control what spells we cast and their results.
