In the soft places we meet not only our truest selves but those beings who are drawn to us. Whether they come to observe or communicate deep truths, we draw them with our words, our action and our being. They come from within and without. They may drive us mad or to a higher sanity than we have ever known
“The first thing I discovered was that if you keep an open mind and examine alternative conspiracy theories impartially and critically, you will immediately get denounced by two groups – those who still have the taboo against thinking about the subject at all, and those who believe they are such clever fellows that they have uncovered the One Real Worldwide Conspiracy which controls everything. The first group calls you paranoid and the second group claims you’re a CIA agent assigned to confuse people and muddle the search for truth. I found this amazing once I saw how mechanical it was: all the real paranoids think I’m a government agent and all the people without a sense of humour think I’m a paranoid.” — Robert Anton Wilson
“The means by which we may enter into communication with these atavisms of magical heredity through the Gateway of our own bodies may best be described in terms which are at once both mystical and practical. We are taught that the Primal Goddess, who is Life Itself, must be called upon at the Place where three roads meet. These three roads are the three states of awareness – Waking, Dreaming and Sleeping. The Goddess is the Continuity of Awareness – the State in which the Adept abides after the accomplishment of contemplative, ritual and votive disciplines. Beyond the Meeting-place of the three roads there is the Fourth Road; this is entered through any State of ‘Inbetweenness’, such as a ritually induced hiatus of consciousness or more often the State of Hypnagogia. The Fourth Road is the Trance State Itself — the State of Silent Knowing or Gnosis. The Sabbatic Teaching is that where the Four Roads meet the Power of Death resides. As the God of the Cross’d-Roads he leads the Aspirant through the Psychostasis of the Initiatory Ordeals, thus granting him communion with the ‘Living And the Dead of All Blessed And Wise’.
In summary, the instantaneity of Illumination is the immediate result of contact with the innermost sanctum of our own being. It is the unveiling of all past and future transitions of entity through which the Indivisible ‘I’ will pass, by the means of going to the ‘Cross-roads’ or Transvocatory Point between all Space and Time.” — Andrew Chumbley
“I saw my earlier selves as different people, acquaintances I had outgrown. I wondered how I could ever have been some of them.” ― Roger Zelazny
At any given moment, we are both a snapshot and a tunnel. We are a snapshot in that the person who we are in this minute will not be who we are five minutes from now. The changes may be minor but they are present. Something may happen that will change an opinion, minor or major. Perhaps it may be something small like a food preference or perhaps something much more consequential. Our lives are after all a conglomeration of who we are in all of those moments perhaps extending even beyond our lifetimes in both directions.
We are tunnels in that in each present moment we connect all of our pasts with all of our futures in a constant dance of becoming.
When I recall my dreams at all, which is rare, they are a quilt of random conversations and images of being. It is oft a mixture of fantastical and magickal bits, obscure randomness with occasional splatters of pure mundanity. In this, it may not be so different from my waking consciousness with perhaps the ration of the mundane and fantastic inverted.
