Playing Chess Fellini’s Way – A Consciousness Stream

“Today, however, we are having a hard time living because we are so bent on outwitting death.”
– Simone de Beauvoir

I asked a friend to give me a quote to blog about and she replied with the Simone de Beavoir one above. It brings to mind both Emily Dickinson and Fellini’s chess playing grim reaper. Playing a final game to give us a bit more time in our form. Yet isn’t that an analogy for life from beginning to end for some. Yet quality is more important than quantity and I would rather live well than live long if given a choice tho ultimately both would be my preference. Castaneda talks about using death as an advisor–holding on to the awareness that one day we will die adds significance to each action and reaction we have. If we do everything as if it was the last time we had the chance to do it, then we will live richer much more intense lives tho it would play havoc on long term planning. I spent most of my twenties and thirties doubting that I would live much beyond forty and now I am more than ten years past that. I have discovered much to live for and now would just as soon stick around longer. Yet still Death sits and moves his pieces around the board and I follow suit. One day I will topple my King in acknowledgement and the act will be over and the stage cleared. Until then there are songs to be sung, sunrises to be enjoyed and good friends to enjoy them with.

Acceptance… A consciousness Stream

“The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.”
— Carl Jung

Accepting the facets that show and the ones that haven’t.
Accepting sanity and insanity and knowing that the distinction is perception
Accepting the shadow and the light and the interplay between the two
Accepting the aging physical, the loss or change of aesthetic
Accepting the thoughts and emotions that i call the dark when despair washes over and greyness covers everything.
Accepting all gods and demons and realizing there is another matter of perception
Accepting the family teaching and the cultural conditioning and the mad beast that rattles against the cage and the sheep that doesn’t
Accepting the all and the nothing
Accepting that all of this and so much more is myself…

Trapped in Amber – A Consciousness Stream

“Well, here we are…trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why.”
— Kurt Vonnegut

Here we are, trapped in this moment. Luckily we have the ability to entertain both ourselves and each other so its a nice time to share some thoughts. Today was Thanksgiving in the land of my birth so maybe I should say somethings I’m grateful for (besides the fact that I was not a native some 300+ years ago). I am thankful for friends, family and the intersection of both. I have been lucky to have an abundance of love in this spin of the wheel and it is something I try never to take for granted. I am thankful for a mind, hands and spirit all of which work reasonably well and for so many things to learn and do. I am thankful especially for the lessons in compassion and that I can feel so much of what is going on in the world and make things better when and how I can. I am thankful for teachers and for each of you reading these words. I am thankful for the growth that I have experienced in this past year and even the hard lessons and pain I have experienced. But enough gratitude for now. What are your dreams and hopes? In what way do you hope to move outside your comfort zone? What inner demons do you face and can I help you dance with them? Of late I seem to have no end of questions, we live in confusing times where many act strangely and expect everyone to follow along. We live in systematic cultures and the systems are running down as they find that their one size fits all solutions fit very few and that a culture based on scarcity and contrived monetary values will eventually fall apart. As the supposed scarcity increases, the greedy get greedier as people fear loss more than they fear not having in the first place and here I am on my soapbox again. Perhaps we can just enjoy the moment, this time together trapped in the nonmoving now but then aren’t we always?

Abide as Emptiness… (A Consciousness Stream)

So the call of all Nondual traditions is: Abide as Emptiness, embrace all Form. The liberation is in the Emptiness, never in the Form, but Emptiness embraces all forms as a mirror all its objects…You and the universe are One Taste
–Ken Wilber

Removal of attachment to disapproval…allowing thing to enter into awareness that we would normally dismiss out of hand…letting it flow out again…letting go… even of the things we like and love…allowing them to come and go at will…encompassing all yet holding none…emptying my bowl…emptying my cup… emptying myself…yet more seems to enter…the bucket never fully empties yet even that is an attachment…i will embrace what contains all.. my Nuit… and yet not embrace but join with …becoming centred in the emptiness ..for a second..for a moment..for eternity and then it fills again… release anger, release shame, release fear…release love, release confidence, release releasing and hold… with each wave..i become emptier then more full.. a never ending breath in the ocean of existence…consciousness of consciousness…nothing of nothingness…and so the dance continues …

Reach Deeper

“Your head’s like mine, like all our heads; big enough to contain every god and devil there ever was. Big enough to hold the weight of oceans and the turning stars. Whole universes fit in there! But what do we choose to keep in this miraculous cabinet? Little broken things, sad trinkets that we play with over and over. The world turns our key and we play the same little tune again and again and we think that tune’s all we are.”
― Grant Morrison

I want to reach deeper
into the hidden caverns of myth and story.
I want to use the buried imagery
to paint mind pictures
that will echo in your deepest memories.
Too long on automatic pilot
skimming the surface, facile myths
and children’s tales oft captured before
but the snake’s energy lies within me
wanting to spring up
but only if I meet it half way.
The currents may drag me under
but if my intent’s direction is set
I’ll find my way back to the surface
with treasure in my being
to share and set you off on your own voyage….

Essence and Mirrors – A Few Random Thoughts Floating Down the Consciousness Stream

“What should I possibly have to tell you, oh venerable one? Perhaps that you’re searching far too much? That in all that searching, you don’t find the time for finding?”
― Hermann Hesse

In searching for the true essence of something, do we deconstruct it, reduce it to its component elements? In all the parts that make up our physical form, where do we find our essence… a doctor (or butcher) could dissect us in every way possible and still never see it… Perhaps to understand the essence of something, the trick is not to open it but to open ourselves…and find that in ourselves that relates…

True Mirrors, whether they be people or objects can either cause us unbelievable bliss or painful aversion..all depending on how well we can handle what is reflected back to us..

It’s not meaning that we search for as much as that something in ourselves that will help us know and understand.

Time Served Truly – Word Play and Consciousness Stream

“All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.”
― Ernest Hemingway

My sentence was commuted. Shortened in that way no one could say whether it was true or false. It wasn’t so much that I got time off for good behaviour or bad. Indeed it seems I lacked conviction. Still I will get off with time served in another 25 years or so. I serve time tho I am not sure it returns the favour and why should it? For quite awhile I defied it, refusing to show the maturity that it tried so hard to thrust upon me. I parried the thrust and behaved much as a child or one of younger years. Then the dice rolled and I found myself a parent and all my past came back to heal and to haunt and thus I became time’s hostage. Still its not so bad, time and I have enchained each other..time takes from me my youth and I make it do tricks, slowing down or speeding up and occasionally in my head it runs backwards bringing memories.

Time’s Currency – A Consciousness Stream

“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.”
― Henry David Thoreau

“Time, Time, Time see what’s become of me” I have donated my time and spent my time, sometimes even squandered it, some of it on stuff that mattered, some only mattered at the moment…such currency we have. Time knows no class and it is never really saved or sequestered merely spent differently…
There is a relative aspect to time. When we don’t enjoy what we’re doing there seems to be much more of it yet when we love our existence and want to savour each second, it seems to vanish… still I would rather have those flowing golden moments than an eternity of dross… so I guess when it comes to time spent, (time served?) Those who have had the most joy are the richest… I wish you all many moments of bliss and a joy that will bring meaning to every moment.

Consciousness Stream Towards Deeper Waters

“This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.”
― Alan Wilson Watts

Investing myself and my time…Conquering the moment or perhaps just living it… filling my days with art and rhyme.. dogs and cleaning and family too… grand adventure in the mundane…tho is anything mundane when its done magically with full will and intent? This next year I will live my time… and time my living… all traveling towards a further deeper consciousness.. because in the end isn’t that what it’s all about?
