Alchemy of Unwanted Emotions

“The alchemy of the dark emotions is a process that cannot be forced, but it can be encouraged by cultivating certain basic emotional skills. The three basic skills are attending to, befriending, and surrendering to emotions that make us uncomfortable… When you are open to your heart’s pain and to your body’s experience of it, emotions flow in the direction of greater healing, balance, and harmony.”
— Miriam Greenspan

Why do I feel this way? I don’t want to. I hate this frustration. I shouldn’t feel this way. Yet I do. How often do we find ourselves going in these loops? We feel bad or angry or sad and then beat ourselves up about it. The truth is that in happy times we seldom monitor our feelings. We are usually do busy enjoying them. Our so called negative emotions can often teach us a lot more about our shadow selves. All we have to do is be open to feeling them. That doesn’t mean wallow but give them their proper space and time. By knowing that not only can we feel deeply but seeing what set them off, we can gain valuable insight into the areas of our life that we have not faced. Soon enough they will leave. Very few emotions can be sustained for very long and in their passing quite often they can leave behind gifts.

Quote of the Day – January 31 2013

“I now see how gifts like courage, compassion, and connection only work when they are exercised. Every day.”
― Brene Brown

Connection
flowing through
into me, into you
checking in
harmony
playing in unity

Disconnection
playing solo
feeling solo
where are you?
lonely, not really feeling
see the ceiling
that’s the floor

Snapping out
realizing my part
plugging in my heart
here we are
peace, watching the weather
emotions together
all will pass

— G A Rosenberg

Today I felt an enormous sense of disconnection all day. Sad, lonely, cut off form those around me. I couldn’t figure out quite what it was but gradually as the day wore on and I started to witness more and more it came clear. Funny, I have written about watching the emotional weather patterns pass through but actually having to practice it? Took some work

Quote of the Day – September 29 2012

“Her mother had been wrong. Love wasn’t a grand explosion. It didn’t blaze onto the scene like a comet; it crept in like a spy in the night, muffled and disguised, worming its way in, not revealing itself until it was too late to do anything about it. Love didn’t attack; it infiltrated. The poets had gotten it wrong.”
— Lauren Willig, The Orchid Affair

Emotional responses will do that won’t they. Creep up on you when you’re least expecting it. Wham love, compassion and insight there when you didn’t even sense them growing. Anger as well…tho luckily eventually we can step back and monitor what emotional weather we’re going through and adjust accordingly. Tho may we all be lucky enough to be snuck up on by love and find that its been growing for awhile.

Blessings, G

Late At Night – A Brief Reflection (with some art ;) )

Late at night
reflecting on the day behind
allowing the feelings to come
finding the right songs to carry me thru
Sincerely feeling
holding nothing back
feels good
To be like this always
as open as a child
and as vulnerable
transcending by experiencing
whatever passes
More and more that seems possible
To be Natural
in a world altered to be less so
seems a worthwhile endeavour’
