Adventure First, Explain Later

“No, no! The adventures first, explanations take such a dreadful time.”
―-Lewis Carroll

How can we understand an experience that we have never had? Oh its easy enough to get it intellectually. This happens and then that happens and this is what it feels like. To truly know what it is to do something, we have to do it, either physically or on some other level where the experience is at least as real. Until then, unless one has truly developed their empathy to almost telepathic levels, explanations are somewhat akin to explaining an intricate piece of music to someone who has been deaf from birth. This is especially true when it comes to peak spiritual experiences. There is no way to hitch a ride on someone else’s, we have to experience it for ourselves.

Quote of the Day – March 25 2013

“Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”
― Anthony Robbins

I read this and I just want to say YES. How often in my life have I second guessed myself or stopped myself from doing something because I was worried either about what someone else might think or that I would not do it correctly? How many experiences have I avoided not because I did not want to experience them but out of fear or avoidance.  Honestly tho, I’ve let myself do a lot and I’ve made huge mistakes and can look at them now and laugh from the other side.

I can guarantee that not only myself but everyone reading this will make several mistakes between now and when we go on. That’s awesome. Mistakes are there so that we can plumb the depths of our ignorance and learn. They are necessary parts of our journey and we should rejoice in them. They may suck at the time particularly the ones where we or others who we care about get hurt but in the mutual healing there is much that can be learned. These mistakes are part of the human journey and wow am I grateful for that.

I’m going to leave off with two questions tonight that I’d love to hear answers from. What inspires you? What feeds you and allows you to go further faster? What is one thing you would like to try that you haven’t yet?
Blessings, G

Quote of the Day – October 18 2012

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late … to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
― Eric Roth

This one was a hard learned one for me or perhaps it was a hard earned one. In a way it empowers more than anything else and also shows where the responsibility and the accountability lie. We make the choices…and more often than not, we can choose joy, its always there on the menu…bliss as well.
The numbers on my personal odometer have spun around again as the calendar keeps apace… This past year brought so much bittersweetness, such amazing joy and bliss spiced by moments of gloom or sadness, to all of which I responded as I would. May this year bring deeper meditations, more amazing ways to show gratitude to the universe as well as those around me. May we all feel even more bliss, may more justice happen between nations and between people. May the suffering of all be relieved . May freedom and joy reign and may you all be blessed,

Quote of the Day – April 21 2012 – (Part the First)

“Remember where you came from, where you’re going, and why you created this mess you got yourself into in the first place.”

― Richard Bach, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

Y’know, sometimes the mess isn’t that bad. Somehow of late I’ve managed to manifest elements of a pretty great existence one for which I have no problem being grateful but I stay fairly certain that I don’t appreciate to its full extent. I have a pretty great (and understanding) partner, a son entering his teenage years who at the very least is never boring and is teaching me daily what it means to grow. Friends, family and even things that give me purpose (even this blog). I find myself pretty thankful for all that I have. By all of this I am not saying that my life has no rough edges, oh boy does it ever. Lots of shall we say growth opportunities and often frustrations but hey that’s why I’ve created the mess in the first place.
