An Oft-Told Tale but Changed

“Do stories grow? Pretty obviously — anybody who has ever heard a joke being passed on from one person to another knows that they can grow, they can change. Can stories reproduce? Well, yes. Not spontaneously, obviously — they tend to need people as vectors. We are the media in which they reproduce; we are their petri dishes… Stories grow, sometimes they shrink. And they reproduce — they inspire other stories. And, of course, if they do not change, stories die.”
–Neil Gaiman

Did you hear the one about the man who tried?
He failed so many times that he thought he’d die
still reached and found the courage somewhere inside
to go on and attempt it again?

Did you hear the one of the heart that cared?
It was so tempting to give into their fear
yet still they had enough will to dare
and so met the man halfway

What about the one about the two who loved?
Buried so deep but they reached above
Their passion flared up when push came to shove
but they kept on going?

We’ll close on the tale of the love that would last
The story of two who pushed past their past
to burn so brightly and yet way too fast
so they learned to reignite

And So It Goes…

“Whither will my path yet lead me? This path is stupid, it goes in spirals, perhaps in circles, but whichever way it goes, I will follow it.”
— Hermann Hesse

Ghosts of old newscasters and older deceased novelists whisper to me “And so it goes”.
Statuses on Facebook reporting that most politicians are clones but they don’t say of whom or why it should matter. And so it goes.
Other voices telling me how this religion is evil and should be stopped. Of course most of the ones saying it believe that the beliefs they have are the right ones ignoring its dubious history.
And so it goes.
I hear the government is not out for the interests of its people but its own.
And so it goes
This seems to be true of most governments … and most corporations.. and most people and so it goes.
Most everything we put in or on our bodies is unhealthy for us not to mention the air we breathe and the water we drink
And so it goes.
There is a diet that will allow us to live healthier, longer and happier lives. There are a variety of opinions of what this diet is. And so it goes.
Most people seem to need to believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong. And so it goes.
Still like flowers or weeds we grow, pushing up through the cracks, surviving as long as we can the footsteps and anything else that may uproot us. We may have things stunting our growth but still we survive as long as we can and find the moments of joy and pleasure and peace we can and somehow within each of our lives there is growth despite or perhaps because of everything that comes our way.
And so it goes.

Having Potential

“I am what I am not yet.”
― Maxine Greene

When I was younger, I was told by far too many people how much potential I had. It always freaked me out. It took me years to even grow into any of the potential that people saw in me because I was so busy running away from the possibility of doing it wrong. potential is infinite tho and we are always on the way to becoming something and usually that something is ourselves. We humans are stars and we contain more than we’ll ever realize. Since then I have not only allowed myself to reach some of the potentials people saw (and have rejected others) but I have grown a lot more comfortable with the idea of having potential. Oddly enough tho at 53 very few people say “You have a lot of potential.” I say its an odd thing because each one of us still here in the physical are in a constant state of becoming. The woman who wrote the above quote lived well into her nineties and never stopped exploring in her field and in any other area of life she was interested in. We are constantly in a state of becoming that which we are not yet.

Yesterday Selves and Tomorrow Mes

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
― Maya Angelou

Today I surrender who I’ve been for who I am. Tomorrow I’ll do the same. There is joy in the surrender but also sorrow. There is pain that I’ve grown so accustomed to that it has become a friend. Letting go of it is akin to losing a loved one. I know tho that I’ll be better without it and the scar will be cool. I will sacrifice innocence for inner sense tho I long to regain it. Trust gives way to wariness and finds its way back like waves along the shore. Like so many things tho it is not an on/off binary switch but a dimmer switch with many graduations. I’ve learned who to trust and how much. Thus I’ve gained wisdom which is beautiful tho have lost a stunning naiveté My love also has gained depth and focus and perhaps expansion as well. With luck and an openness to learn, age gives dimensionality. We become less stock actors and more and more ourself. Yet nothing worthwhile comes without a price. So I will mourn my yesterday selves and know that I will join them. Someone looked on in fondness by the tomorrow mes.

Thank you Maya Angelou for incarnating and Blessings on your journey. Your words from time to time have served as a compass for me.

Spirals Watched and Waking… A Consciousness Stream

“We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps.”
― Hermann Hesse

I’ve done this before…trusted too much…didn’t try hard enough…lost my nerve and now the cycle repeats. Yet I am not back at the beginning. In truth none goes backwards. I have this cycle of experiences added to my wheelhouse and that may be enough to change how things turn out. No perfect circles exist in life, the spiral moves ever outwards. I too move with the spiral growing, changing, learning. I look down at where I was and I realize it anew. I look out at what is possible and I rise with hope, inspired.

Meeting Again For the First Time

“We Die To Each Other Daily.
What We Know Of Other People
Is Only Our Memory Of The Moments
During Which We Knew Them. And They Have Changed Since Then.
To Pretend That They And We Are The Same
Is A Useful And Convenient Social Convention
Which Must Sometimes Broken. We Must Also Remember
That At Every Meeting We Are Meeting A Stranger”
— T. S. Eliot

We are all influx. We change by the moment even when we feel that we are stuck. As we change so does everyone around us. We cannot take another person’s being for granted even if we feel that we have known them for years. For not only do they have sides that we have never seen but they are constantly manifesting new elements of themselves. To deny them this is to deny our experience of them and choosing to look at an old snapshot rather than dealing with someone fresh, new and exciting. We may not always respond well to the changes. That is only natural at times and how we respond may easily become a catalyst for changes in ourselves. We are all changing evolving playful beings revealing and creating ourselves one moment at a time.

Quote of the Day – November 29, 2012

“Sometimes I think that’s where most of us are,” I said. “Fighting off the crazy as best we can. Trying to become something better than we were. It’s that second bit that’s important”
–Jim Butcher

Modern life in three-dimensional reality demands much of us. We have to be different things in different relationships to different people at different times while maintaining the integrity of being ourselves. Many of us over schedule ourselves to a ridiculous extent trying to do so many things at once and still hold on, still get it done. It gets so tempting to give our loved ones including ourselves short shrift believing that when we find the time, we will focus on growth. Seldom forgetting that in all this mess growth we are becoming and hopefully through it all becoming something better than we have been before…

Quote of the Day – October 17 2012

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
–Heraclitus

Any day I feel I am following a routine and perhaps one that I don’t particularly enjoy, cleaning out the cat’s letterbox, bringing a forgotten book or computer to school, dishes etc.. I try to remember this one. If I find some way to grow and expand every day than this is not something I’ve done before. For this ‘I’ has just been born and nothing is routine. Like many forms of wisdom, knowing this beyond the intellect and feeling it in my heart, living the truth are two different things. Work in progress here… and when I’m done and i have nothing left to learn it will be onto the next adventure.
