Fighting Rigidity

“It is discouraging to try to penetrate a mind like yours. You ought to get it out and dance on it. That would take some of the rigidity out of it.”
― Mark Twain

Reject and transcend anything that has become dogma or creed. It seems that every conversation and thread that I have had today has to do with keeping one’s path a living one by not stopping at any fixed place. As soon as something becomes scripture, it needs to either be looked at in a new way, more deeply understood or rejected and transcended. Otherwise we are not following our path but merely decorating it to fit in with others. New gardens of thought and conceptualizing must keep springing up from the purifying remains of older ones that proved to be not as viable.

Beating Reality

“Reality can be beaten with enough imagination.”
― Mark Twain

If we combine our imagination with a bit of will reality bends our way. Perhaps the change will be one of outlook. Quite often how we look in our lives can be the difference between a life that is less than satisfactory to one with endless possibilities. Perhaps the change will be one of action, where the dream itself gives us the impetus to make it happen. The change may be an inspirational one where our imagination inspires others to make changes with us and thus we create a better world.

A Face Peers BackFrom the Abyss a Face Peers Back

Quote of the Day – February 6 2013

“I was gratified to be able to answer promptly, and I did. I said I didn’t know.”
― Mark Twain

I’ve been told that ‘I don’t know.’ is the most common honest answer in the english language. Yet admitting it seems so difficult.  Is it but one more crime to heap on the educational systems of the world or is it something deeper? I don’t know. What is it that we know for sure? Our names that is to say our identities? Yet how often do we surprise ourselves acting in ways, both good and bad that we never expected. I used to claim I knew so much. Now more and more often I see the things I am ignorant of. I must admit tho I find not knowing  to be FANTASTIC. Because as long as I don’t know, it means I am open to learning. Will this always be the case? I don’t know =)

Quotes of the Day – March 11 2012

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
– Mark Twain

“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
– Miriam Beard

Halfway done with UK / Ireland trip. It hasn’t felt quite so much like a long strange trip as a welcoming home. London is a very comfortable city and today we spent with friends old and new in Sudbury with a side trip to Saffron Walden. We got to see Ley-Lines and labyrinths and walk along the oldest hedge maze in Europe.
So has this trip been transformative in nature? Yes but in surprisingly subtle ways. Soft insights rather than revelatory ones and perhaps in some ways a reclamation of self. I have done much of what I’ve enjoyed and I’ve managed to claim space to do so. I’ve discussed the importance of looking deeper and not accepting easy answers and perhaps I’ve learned how important face to face intelligent conversation is to me and how much I’ve missed it.
Here’s to new destinations and sunny skies. Tomorrow we fly to Ireland. Blessings, G
