Quote of the Day – February 20 2013

“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
― Rumi

I have a bit of a confession, folks. When it comes to dancing as in at a club or at a wedding I kind of suck. Oh I can figure out the movements and possibly the rhythm but hardly ever do the twain meet. For years this stopped me from even trying to dance. Of course being out of step with those around me has been a fairly common theme in my life. In a similar way I can perceive the rhythms and I can get the steps yet  they are not my steps so when I try to do them it becomes somewhat unnatural.
Sometime in the last few years tho I loosened up quite a bit. I’ve started dancing my own steps to the music in my head and whether or not it suits other’s aesthetics it expresses my own and that’s a good thing. There is something amazing and prayer like in movement and letting yourself go. Likewise, in my life, I have given up trying to fit into anyone else’s definitions except that of my life itself.

Quote of the Day – February 17 2013

“Break the glass, please, and free us from all these damned rules, from needing to find an explanation for everything, from doing only what others approve of.”
― Paulo Coelho

Stray Insights and rhyme bits… tonight, If you like them feed them and take them home. Nurture them and they may grow. Otherwise leave them for another’s warmth and or pity…

“Without extremes, without those of us who go off to the edges of life to hang out with the dragons that there be where would any of us be?”

“Crucial and to me the most important thing… not getting stuck.. i mean i can go the rationalist route as long as i can still believe ‘seven impossible things before breakfast’. After coffee i can be all about confirmation”

“incontinent with my confidence… words get syntaxed and meanings get puncturated …Any Dick with a dictionary can have words but essence essentially sits within…”

“Strange how insight never comes on command but strikes at the oddest moments”

Quote of the Day – February 16 2013

“I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it.”
― Vincent van Gogh

I love to learn new things. Most often of course I learn by doing it wrong until I get it right. To this end I have made mistakes in art, poetry, writing, parenting, relationships, sales and so many other areas but gradually in some I have improved and continue hopefully to do so. My partner despairs that I’ll ever master some of the subtleties of doing laundry among other things but as I said, hopefully I learn from my mistakes.
For a long time I was afraid of trying new things and failing. It has taken me a long time to learn that as long as I am trying new things I cannot fail nor grow old. This has been a learning that has been long in coming and probably one of the most important things I can ever pass on to my kids.

Portal 2 (Redux)

If we are limitless beings
If time and space are merely conceptual maps that we use
than there is a part of me that knows itself as being me that can travel in time
that sees me here
that can / is guiding me along to the point where i am that…
I can read and know people’s minds and hearts
i can heal myself and others
and I can know that i am limitless…

heart opening
light coming through
a glimmer
in a dark room that can shine like the sun

senses expanding
Gazing at Starlight
Realizing we’re so much more.
Transcendence occurs. =)

Quote of the Day – February 15 2013

“You’re always free to change your mind
and choose a different future, or a different past.”
— Richard Bach

How can we change our pasts? Isn’t what happened incontrovertible?  Perhaps so but then even if I can’t change the events that happened, I can still change how I view them. Did I get taken advantage of by people or did I seek out people who would teach me certain lessons in exactly the way that I needed to learn them? So many times when I think of my past, particularly situations that turned out to be either dangerous or damaging or a combination of both, I realized very early on perhaps even before I entered into them, the possibilities of where they may lead. Part of me knew the adventure would be worth it. Looking back now from the perspective of the present, I believe that I was right. I choose not the path where I am time’s victim but the one where I am time’s student. Over and over I choose the path of learning even when the lessons were painful and so become empowered rather than weakened. What of the future? The future I choose each instance.

Quote of the Day – February 14 2013

I’m the golden eternity in mortal animate form.”
― Jack Kerouac

The moment whispers of a thousand eternities
ones haunted by memories of you
in that dress as you were when i last saw you
a last look of red and blue as you stormed out the door
oh eventually you came back
but the youness was gone
You no longer saw my struggles
just my past failures
and chose not to reveal
anything of thought or fancy to me
I asked you to care again
and my words echoed back
through my emptiness
How can you exist so clearly
in memories and on the couch
yet have disappeared beyond any
ability to reach?

Dreaming A Technicolour Reality

Dreaming a Technicolour Reality by G A Rosenberg

Quote of the Day – February 13 2013

“We’re so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about.”
— Joseph Campbell

What is that rapture? What does it mean to have inner life? It means questions for sure and answers that lead off into more questions? It means witnessing the behaviour of the self and that of others, not withholding judgement for we all judge but watching that judgement as well, knowing that it can be faulty. It means honesty and a struggle to be honest even if that honesty may cause pain. That one I get stuck on often. But how can we have integrity without honesty and what does our response to the outside world matter if our inner life contains too many lies?

Quote of the Day – February 12 2013

“This day will never come again and anyone who fails to eat and drink and taste and smell it will never have it offered to him again in all eternity. The sun will never shine as it does today…But you must play your part and sing a song, one of your best. ”
― Hermann Hesse

Celebrate this day with song and story
Celebrate it with life
Honour it with pleasure
Surrender it your pain
The gift of the present
as it swiftly moves away

I’ve said most of this before but it bears repeating. Even in those moments that life sucks, where everything feels black, appreciate them. When will you feel exactly this way for this reason ever again. Each instance is rare (some are occasionally well-done and those deserve celebration even more perhaps). This perspective of the moment and knowing that it could lead anywhere has gotten me through some very tough times. So especially if you can’t see the sense of it and all seems rough, use it as a benchmark to revisit when things seem great and you can appreciate how far you’ve come. So good or bad or anywhere on the spectrum in between, each day deserves celebration.
