The Forest Where the Pieces Lie

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’
‘That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,’ said the Cat.
‘I don’t much care where -‘ said Alice.
‘Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,’ said the Cat.
‘- so long as I get SOMEWHERE,’ Alice added as an explanation.
‘Oh, you’re sure to do that,’ said the Cat, ‘if you only walk long enough.”
― Lewis Carroll

Wandering in a spiritual desert
searching for a destination.
I was told the truth was around here somewhere
tho the signs pointed in all directions.
I started out finding pieces scattered
like tired dreams
yet they shone true as the summer sky
yet like blue sky puzzle pieces
they didn’t seem to fit
so I changed my road
and found still more
so I kept on
grasping for pieces of blue sky truth
and brown mud truth
and angel eyed truth
yet few details emerged.
The big picture eluded me
tho I got hints of its final shape.
Now millions of pieces and
thousands of roads later
I know it still eludes me
I may never get where I’m going
yet this forest will always be my home.

Sharing Tales and Chapters

“There are no happy endings… There are no endings, happy or otherwise. We all have our own stories which are just part of the one Story that binds both this world and Faerie. Sometimes we step into each others stories – perhaps just for a few minutes, perhaps for years – and then we step out of them again. But all the while, the Story just goes on.”
― Charles de Lint

Sharing tales by the fire
and knowing that for awhile
we’ll travel together
Lovers, friends, strangers
exchanging gifts, words, experiences
sharing a bed, an adventure, a lifetime
or several.
We may part one day for awhile
yet in parting we leave the gift
of chapters in each other’s tales
on the unending road ahead.

Tree Wisdom

“It is stated that when a tree has passed a hundred years of age, a divine spirit will come dwell inside it, and show its appearance.”
— Toriyama Sekien

Spirit of the tree
Share your wisdom
give me shade
show me how to grow strong
using what nature gives me.
Spread your roots
and encompass beauty
Give a home supportive of life that you encounter
Forest spirit
teach me how to withstand storms
that seek to break me
and to bend with the winds of change
Help me learn to reach the sky
while aiming ever higher.

No Tale in the Present

“You are not any of the stories you believed about yourself. What you are is actually the absence of story. That’s why the Buddha said, “There is no self.“”
— Adyashanti

To live in a story
is to live in a moment
that is not now
for tales imply an ending
a past already wrote
but the present is ever written
gone when word hits page
or lips.
Once upon a time..
a time not now
in a place
not here
but gone
the now may be spoken of some day
when it has become then
but our moment our now
is happening so no tale
in the unfolding..

Scars

“Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real.”
― Cormac McCarthy

On my shoulder there is a mark
A statue broken against it
It drew blood
as the feelings of jealousy washed over me.
My foot, I cut that as a child
playing games of innocence and laughter
Some scars make you smile.
That line under my lip
I ran into a fence hitchhiking
long roads and many songs brought back
by reflection.
The gash through my heart tho
that came from you
bittersweet memories
and a hopeless dream of being marked again.
