Autumn

“I notice Autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche

Autumn more than any other time speaks to my internal self. Patly because I was born in Autumn a time that makes me generally reflective. There is something tho about the look of coloured leaves falling to the ground and their smell decomposing that inspires me. I enjoy the chill in the air and the blend of summer warmth and winter coolness. I will spend this next few months finishing up some projects and starting some new ones and generally transitioning to the quiet of winter.

The Me in You (Love Doggerel )

“Are you the new person drawn toward me?
To begin with, take warning – I am surely far different from what you suppose;
Do you suppose you will find in me your ideal?
Do you think it so easy to have me become your lover?
Do you think the friendship of me would be unalloy’d satisfaction?
Do you think I am trusty and faithful?
Do you see no further than this façade—this smooth and tolerant manner of me?
Do you suppose yourself advancing on real ground toward a real heroic man?
Have you no thought, O dreamer, that it may be all maya, illusion?”
― Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

I would love to be the me in you
for in your eyes I shine.
You have always believed in me
My silly jokes, my foolish rhymes.
If I could be the me in you
I wouldn’t have to doubt
you believe in the confidence
of which I’ve felt a drought.

I’m weary of being the me in me
that silly sad old fool
who once thought I could get away
with breaking every rule
Yet life stomps hard on fantasies
and every tower falls
For you I want to build castles
I’d make the grandest halls.

For if I become the me in you
that brave worthwhile ideal
There is nothing I couldn’t do
to no being would I yield
For you have kept believing
when I was brought down low.
With you I’ve become a better man
Together may we grow.

Mirrored Thoughts — Some Perspective Doggerel

“I saw all the mirrors on earth and none of them reflected me.”
— Jorge Luis Borges

I reflect on my reflection
and realize no connection
to that pasty pale complexion
that I see
I remember me as younger
and my body lean with hunger
yet the belly hanging under
won’t agree
Still the years have been much kinder
then I deserve, its a reminder
of the truth I’ve been a finder
and I seek
yet the body has a balance
mind and spirit more a challenge
that I chose, that was my talent
I won’t weep
I’ll put it all together
make my whole self much better
to this challenge that I’ll weather
I will leap

In Darkness

“Anything that stands out in darkness becomes beautiful”
— Randall Wolfe

In pitch blackness I awoke
no sound no movement
a disquieting peace
broken by the sound of your breath
and the beating of my heart.
Still, I was still
yet blind and then
turning towards you
I saw your eyes and the curve of your face
and was enraptured
I felt your smile
as it mirrored mine
In moonlight or daylight you shine like the sun
but in the kiss of darkness
you become my world

Mirror Me Whole

<h3“You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.”
― George Bernard Shaw

Looking in the mirror
making changes in my soul
tired of feeling like half a man
gonna recreate me whole

Make mistakes along the way
cause that’s just how I roll
seeking out my true will
make a diamond from this coal

giving my confession
clearing up my stuff
telling the truth about
the times i acted rough

seeking resolution
isn’t all that tough
Learning not to demand
more than is enough

shaping up my practice
finding a new way
of being with the infinite
living for today

The Reflection’s Reality

“Did you ever wonder if the person in the puddle is real, and you’re just a reflection of him?”
— Bill Watterson

Beneath the surface
our shadows speak
we give them voice
through our silence
and reality
through our denial that they exist.
We avoid our dark reflections
tho if we listened
what could we learn
of what we keep hidden away?
Today I didn’t speak
swallowing the pain
yet looking
and silently crying
I hear the words that I deny
I will face my shadow
and give it words
and meet myself halfway
