Spinning the Wheel of Self

“Every man is more than just himself; he also represents the unique, the very special and always significant and remarkable point at which the world’s phenomena intersect, only once in this way, and never again. That is why every man’s story is important, eternal, sacred; that is why every man, as long as he lives and fulfills the will of nature, is wondrous, and worthy of consideration. In each individual the spirit has become flesh, in each man the creation suffers, within each one a redeemer is nailed to the cross.”
― Hermann Hesse, Demian

Reaching inside
yet barely breaking through the surface
so much more to see
so much more to be
the journey takes a lifetime
and the wheel stays in spin
the king falls and rises
the queen nourishes
and sometimes yes sometimes the demon at the bottom
I’ve been him too
I ride the wheel
and turn it
while exploring the nature
and the nurture
the soul behind the curtain
watches, witnessing all
in love
Curious as the spiral spins anew..

Musings on Improv Class

“Only he who is well prepared has any opportunity to improvise.”
― Ingmar Bergman

Preparing to improvise
Making it up as I go along
but staying within defined lines
Investigating new boxes to jump in
for a moment or a lifetime
that lasts five minutes.
You might think a chameleon like fool
would find that easy
yet I am used to longer playtimes
Can I shift and find my way each time?
Yet each who am I this time
lends knowledge to who I am for eternity
so I will build my lines as I go
and by becoming someone new
become myself

Quote of the Day – January 27 2013

“We know what we are, but not what we may be.”
― William Shakespeare

Infinite potential to change, Infinite potential to discover. A universe of experiences to perceive. Each day we realize more of who we are, each realization another drop of the infinite. If we are each the image of the infinite  then we embody everything. All we have to do is be willing to change, to become the new and not let ourselves fear what we may be giving up. In the long run, nothing is lost that is needed. After all what is this life but an actor’s dream. When we have played our part, our costumes return to storage,  and we leave the stage. We will perform again and who knows what the stage will be like next time. The adventure continues, always in progress.

Diving Into ActionDiving Into Action by G A Rosenberg

Quote of the Day – June 25 2012

“The you that you think of as you (and that thinks of you as you, and so on) is not you, it’s just the character that the underlying truth of you is dreaming into existence. Enlightenment isn’t in the character, it’s in the underlying truth.”
–Jed McKenna

Compare this to:

“Perspective – Use It or Lose It. If you turned to this page, you’re forgetting that what is going on around you is not reality. Think about that.”
–Richard Bach

Sometimes its so easy to get caught in our lives like a fly on a fly strip. We take things so very seriously. We forget that the play’s the thing and we are here to work things out, experience it. We find ourselves in relationships with kids and it becomes so easy to believe that that is us. When things go wrong, we bemoan our fates or at least I do and have…I feel glad that I can also shift perspectives..eventually and realize it is all an act. Funny I have done the same thing in parenting moments with Zev. I start out by giving him a talking to and then at some point we both realize that father and son are roles we are playing and we start smiling. Then the talk resumes but at a much more comfortable level.

I have also fallen prey to the opposite effect. Getting so into trying to live the underlying reality that I forget that quite often the people around me are taking things a lot more seriously than I am. That can as I’ve realized in others and myself can come off as quite insufferable. So I strive for balance and hope one day to achieve it in this as in so many other things. At this point I figure the point of balance will probably come about five minutes before I leave this body. Perhaps that’s the way it should be.

Quote of the Day – May 18 2012

“We are our own dragons and our own heroes. We must rescue ourselves from ourselves.”
― Peter S. Beagle

Look in the mirror
Hero or clown reflects back
Choice turns back to you

When I saved myself
I would appreciate
in value someday

My dragon devours
All parts of myself I’d lost
Neighbour’s cat missing

Thinking in Haiku
expressing thought in new ways
frees the fenced in mind

But then I left my meter running
and my scansion got declined

In Peter S Beagle’s quote who trapped us in the first place? Why? Hero, Captive, Dragon what other roles do we play.. Ah yes Director and Set Designer as well

Fractal Beings Telling Stories by G A Rosenberg

Golden Wings by G A Rosenberg

Quote of the Day – May 13 2012

“To survive, you must tell stories.”
― Umberto Eco, The Island of the Day Before

This quote seems to sparkle on the surface. So much of our existence seems due to the stories we tell ourselves. Our stories reflect,  inflect and infect our being. Who was I there? Was I hero or victim, bystander or villain? Did I save the day or get lost in the woods? Did I grow or did I sink into despair? Is that story over yet or is this just a brief respite in between chapters?

Yet I wonder are stories truly necessary to survive? When we meditate isn’t the idea to shut the stories down and be in silence? If so, then what part of us needs the stories to survive? Does meditation give us the necessary space in which to change our stories, change ourselves? Stories may be necessary but we can keep improving the stories told.
