Transform Daily

“Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation.
Use it!”
— Ram Dass

Travelling this road of becoming
accompanied by the spirits of change
No constants, no restraints
except that we cannot remain in place
Let the spirits guide the way
the shadows show the wyrd
and the spiders weave each strand in place
We break all conventions
as we shift and shine
brilliant and serpentine
evolving, becoming anew

Hanging Out in My Cocoon

“How much can you change and get away with it, before you turn into someone else, before it’s some kind of murder?”
— Richard Siken

Always changing
my butterfly self
killing the caterpillar in my cocoon
then moving on to the next
Transforming
from when to when
and from who to whom
yet always myself
I mourn for the cast off skins
of mes past
as I long for the kiss
from the me yet to come
that will send me off
this transitory form
of my eternal being.

Love Transformed and Transferred.

“Nothing is lost, nothing is created, all is transformed.”
— Antoine Lavoisier

You’ve drifted into memory
our love once present
now defined by absence
yet neither it nor
all I’ve learned from
the us that was is lost
I can revisit it
and make it better
with fewer mistakes
that we made
that I made.
Nothing is lost
My anger is transformed to regret
My tears to acceptance
and my love
well that still burns
a memory and definition of home
a collection of mental photographs
of joy I will feel again

Transformation

“The most important thing to remember is this: To be ready at any moment to give up what you are for what you might become.”
— W.E.B. Du Bois

Transformation continues to fascinate me. On the one hand we all have infinite potential with infinite possibility to change and grow. On the other hand most transformations are surface. We can change our appearance, our lifestyle and our beliefs but all of those are masks that cover up who we are at our inner core. The best changes of course are the ones that bring us closer to that inner core, our true being. Yet how can we know what will do that unless we are willing to experiment and explore and allow ourselves to see which things may resonate the most.
So I resolve to learn and try everything possible. I will indulge in life’s banquet and partake of any outlook or activity that speaks to me and never refrain from trying something I never have before. We each owe it to ourselves to live a life of becoming until our time is done.

From Conception to a Changed Reality

“A thought, even a possibility, can shatter and transform us.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche

If we can conceive of something, it exists if only in our imagination. If we can imagine something then we can interact with it and learn what makes it tick. If we can interact with something and know what makes it tick then we can create it and make it real and transform our lives. This is true of everything from the concept of freedom for someone who finds himself confined to the idea of food for those who are hungry. Now I’m not not saying that people who are starving can think themselves fed or that someone serving three lifetime sentences in jail can easily free themselves just that the very idea of these concepts can change their lives. Knowing that such things as freedom or a full belly exist and are possible can change one’s existence. This is one of the main principles not only behind magick but behind every movement or revolution that the world has seen.

It’s Magick

“You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness. In this case, it comes from nonconformity, the courage to turn your back on the old formulas, the courage to invent the future.”
— Thomas Sankara

I can think of no better time to talk about magick than in this space of Samhain, All-Hallows and Día de Meurtos. A definition of magick that I like is causing changes to happen in conformity with will. From the viewpoint of this definition, an act as simple as walking to the store or eating can be considered an act of magick. The ritual in ritual magick is a way of preparing both one’s conscious and unconsciousness with triggers that awaken one’s focus on the objective. In other words if you want to become more organized, you would surround yourself with symbols of logic and order. If there is a deity or saint that symbolizes that desire, you may call on them. Ultimately what is involved is the manipulation of symbols. The fact that many of these same symbols are hard-wired into our psyche by means of our collective unconsciousness brings more force to the ritual. There is nothing in it that is inherently evil or satanic. Anyone who has gone to synagogue or church has participated in rituals all of their life. It’s a matter of making symbols work for you and learning which ones will work the best for any given endeavour.

Sinking and Rising

“The truth is always an abyss. One must — as in a swimming pool — dare to dive from the quivering springboard of trivial everyday experience and sink into the depths, in order to later rise again — laughing and fighting for breath — to the now doubly illuminated surface of things.”
— Franz Kafka

sinking deep and fast
lower in my morass than I’ve been
the surface is too much to bear
and I’ve been trying for far too long.
So I sink
into sorrow, into despair
all the things I’ve scoffed at
safe in books and memories
yet now in my swimming life
I’ve been tossed an anchor
and so go lower
yet as I sink, I shed mass
clothes, dreams, illusions
and reach a point of balance
a brighter clarity than
heretofore offered
I rise fast
buffeted by new understanding.
