Expressing Ourselves

” No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit. ”
-Ansel Adams

Create with me
a reality based on our dreams
A many faceted gem that exists
at the touch of our souls.
We’ll shape the pieces anew
and watch them form
I’ll manifest the you that you wish
as I become the me I envision
It doesn’t matter who we are
as long as we are true
to our self to our dreams
and to the expression of our wills.

En-Vision Art

Life is your art. An open, aware heart is your camera. A oneness with your world is your film. Your bright eyes and easy smile is your museum.”
― Ansel Adams

What images in your day have made your heart sing? What have you looked at that has brought a smile to your eyes? What today for the briefest moment lit your world and made the day just that much better? If we try every day for that one moment, that one snapshot of joy our lives become qualitatively better? Perhaps it is something in the sky, there are always fascinating things to see there. Perhaps it is a never before seen flower? The face of a loved one, the smile of a child, dogs and cats and other pets acting goofy tends to be snapshots I continuously add to my daily roll. When I see an act of kindness such as someone doing something unexpectedly wonderful for a stranger in need or people being helpful when they don’t need to be that tends to be a picture I take and cherish.

Self-Revelation

I stand naked before the court
exposed before my self
judge and jury watch
as I accuse and defend my being
Here is my ignorance
and my indifference to cries
I pretended not to hear
Here is my fear
that excuse for inauthenticity
Here my sense of beauty
and my kindness
Here my concern and my thoughts
I drone on for hours
ripping off the layers of my being
more revealed with each word
until finally I am exhausted
A feather hovers in the air
and my sentence delivered.
With new clarity I go forth.

Withholding the No

“No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.”
― Ansel Adams

One day when I was walking through a nearby park, I met an old man and we start talking. He talked about his early life in the military and then later on how he traveled by rail and hitchhiked all over the country. I loved his stories. Oh he expressed many views I didn’t agree with. He seemed a bit racist and his view of politics was way different than mine. I didn’t voice my disagreement tho because I wanted to hear more of his stories that so beautifully expressed his life.
It’s my experience that most people don’t take well to being told their views are mistaken, which by many means different than their own. Oh I’m not shy about expressing my particular reality tunnels either here or when asked, I just have never been comfortable negating the views of others. Think of how many stories we would miss out on if we shut someone off just because they offered an opinion, even one we chose to find offensive. Eventually people’s views especially ones we find ignorant will grow and expand given half a chance. Reality has a way of widening most viewpoints these days and seldom if ever have I seen a viewpoint narrowed by what has befallen someone.
I will always listen to people’s stories because sometimes that is the most precious thing they have to share. I have yet to meet anyone whom I couldn’t learn something from and my favourite hobby is curing my own ignorance…

Quote of the Day – February 24 2013

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
― Ansel Adams

I have no words to describe how I feel. Confusion, Delusion, infusion, collusion, and all those other ions colliding into each other. “If I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don’t know” Luckily, I know better than to make such foolish claims. I offer my words up here daily, a sacrifice to the universe where I share what goes through my brain at the moment. Both an exercise in writing and an exercise in self-expression yet tonight I have reached a point where I have little to express. Tomorrow is another day with more art to share and hopefully a tarot post. For tonight… a moment of silence…
