Like Water

“Pain is a relatively objective, physical phenomenon; suffering is our psychological resistance to what happens. Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves create suffering. Resistance creates suffering. Stress happens when your mind resists what is… The only problem in your life is your mind’s resistance to life as it unfolds. ”
― Dan Millman

When I first heard the concept that suffering is optional and that it shows resistance to life as it is, I immediately began to protest.
“Sure try telling that to people who are homeless and have nothing. Tell that to someone who is out of work and doesn’t know how to feed their families!”
Then I met people who’s lives seemed so much harder than my own and yet they had a joy that I don’t think I could match on my best days. I met people with death sentences from cancer hanging over their head who wanted nothing more than to tell jokes and misbehave. I learned that it was possible to hurt but not suffer.
It was then that I understood what Bruce Lee meant when he said “Be Like Water.”

Quote of the Day – December 2 2012

“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”
― Bruce Lee

Tho sometimes the most difficult thing may be to discern the difference between the three. So many things in my life that I thought useless that later on became essential to know and things I thought I would always be able to use that later on proved useless. So many cant’s and shouldn’ts

What have I to offer that is totally my own? Perhaps just what is in each of use to offer, a unique perspective. Noone else looks at things exactly the way that each of us do. We each hold views of the universe that can be static but when we listen to another, the kaleidoscope that is our reality tunnel shifts just a little and if open to it we can see the world in a whole new way.
I am eternally grateful to those who have turned the kaleidoscope for me and I hope I in turn have turned it for others

Quote of the Day – May 15 2012

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.”
–Bruce Lee

Tonight seems all about water and reflection, meditation and thought, floating letting things come to the surface. This quote fits the image, The Hanged Man from the Tarot, a card I relate to more often than not. Odin hung himself upside down from the world tree to gain understanding (returned with the Runes better than the runs for sure) Be like water, let come to the surface come including silliness and sorrow…Sorrow for wrongs done this 64 years past and since..silliness because we humans become ridiculous..squabble over silly things and want control…so many people wanting to control so much when what they really seem to need is control of self or at least enough loss of control to flow…like water..
Water goes where it wills and seldom stays, it becomes stagnant that way and indeed my thoughts may slow and even stop but soon the flow continues unhindered…I’ve forgotten how long I’ve been on this tree…I need real eyes to realize–Dancing with my own development –part of the flow i need to let go — i forget my body is there –collecting consciousness in a jar, no it was a door but the door’s ajar or was…I left a note before I came here for my friends– “I hope you don’t mind but while you were away i took your limitations. It didn’t seem like you needed them anymore” — tho some of them couldn’t let them go thus we cling long after we need to…tho perhaps a reason, a season passes and something new begins..it gets cold here at night — I wanted to do something for my friends — I am so grateful for all of them..Lucky to have had so many great things happen and even the hard things, the lessons i’m grateful for too….

So here I’ll hang for as long as I need to and then…well I’m not sure
Blessings, G

Hanged Man by G A Rosenberg

Quote of the Day – March 31 2012

“Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system.”
–Bruce Lee

Yet people keep trying to classify, label and sort us to find exactly where we fit into the current systems. Of course it doesn’t work. None of us despite our best efforts can ever easily fit. The systems of labelling decay as do the labellers with it. The only systems that will work are organic ones, ones that will grow and alter with us as we do.

Quote of the Day – January 14 2012

“Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.”

— Bruce Lee

So many people I know, myself included find forgiving others  to be relatively easy. Sometimes letting go of the hurt can be a lot more difficult. What about forgiving ourselves? In the past I have put so much effort into covering up my mistakes rather than admitting them that I totally lost site of something key. When I cover up a mistake I’ve made, I keep myself in the mistake, and  it becomes almost impossible to forgive myself. When I admit to  to myself (and almost always that first admission feels necessary) and then others, I can get past it and forge a new reality where that mistake no longer happens. Also the mistake of dishonesty starts getting cleared up to. But deception of self and others will be a topic of another quote and day. Namaste, G

Tomorrow, I will announce the winner of the December Art contest.

Quote of the Day – February 8 2011

‎”The doubters said,
“Man can not fly,”
The doers said,
“Maybe, but we’ll try,”
And finally soared
In the morning glow
While non-believers
Watched from below.”
