Wistful

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
— Leonardo da Vinci

Longing for my flying days
my travel days
the road never-ending
and the sky going on forever
I tell myself
the familiar tale
of satisfaction the everyday
and that roots enable growth
I’ve raised a life
and a family
and found beauty in
the routineless routine
yet then I see sky
or a patch of the open road
and I remember
the trapped freedom of wingless flight.

Quotes of the Day – September 4 2012

“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can’t see from the center.”
― Kurt Vonnegut

“We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.”
― Kurt Vonnegut

To jump or not to jump, is that the question? Do we stand on the edge on our tiptoes to get the fullest safe view we can or do we leap trusting that we can develop wings on the way down with little to no problem. Trust seems difficult when it is so easy to hedge my bets here on the edge. People brag about being on the edge, being edgy, pushing the envelope yet in a way they’re the ones without the courage to make the leap.  Perhaps they’re the smart ones…going as close as they can, they inhabit the crossroads of potentiality where any direction including  off is possible. So centre, edge or jump? Which resonates most for you?

Quote of the Day – February 5 2012

“For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.”
–Leonardo Da Vinci

How can we settle down on the farm after we’ve seen the big city? How, once we have gained awareness of space both inner and outer can we be content to settle back in our own heads without wanting to be out again. Yet life becomes a combination of many things, before enlightenment we take out the garbage, after enlightenment we take out the garbage and occasionally during. Still once we have been yanked outside of our earthly life, our eyes will forever look skyward and perhaps within. Namaste, G

Quote of the Day – October 9 2011

“For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.”

     –Leonardo da Vinci

Here I was hoping for a quote that would say something about not being able to return again. Not wanting to use the cliche about being unable to go home again but its true. The home of our youth seems unattainable which I believe may be more positive than not. I realize each time I return to the states how much my life, my beliefs, my outlook and my very being has changed. Whether the change has been a qualitatively positive one I cannot judge. Oh I feel much happier in my skin (and being) than I have ever been before. Yet there seems a comfort has been lost in not falling into the same patterns. One day I believe there will be a greater return and even then I will not be the same being I was. Each lifetime’s experiences mark our souls in inestimable ways. — G A Rosenberg
