Quote of the Day – November 16 2011

“Call it… joy. The thing like pleasure that you feel when you’ve done a good thing or passed up a real tempting chance to do a bad thing. Or when the unfolding of the universe just seems especially apt. It’s nowhere near as flashy and intense as pleasure can be. Believe me! But it’s got something going for it. Something that can make you do without pleasure, or even accept a lot of pain, to get it.”

–Spider Robinson

Thinking about all the times I went for the quick fixes of pleasure and / or comfort only because I believed that I didn’t deserve joy. Little did I know that joy was my earned birthright. You earn it by opening yourself up to feeling it.

Joy doesn’t mean you don’t see the world and its troubles, Joy does give you the awareness to know that you can handle them and that ultimately you CAN do what needs to be done..

“It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.”

Some Random Thoughts

..and so I continue to walk around the elephant, honouring each description i hear while never losing sight that a greater truth exists, one that I may never know fully but each person’s truth enlightens me further.

Recognize the moments of joy, beauty and love each day and focus on them..Yes pain, corruption, greed and much much ugliness exists and those we tend to hold close doesn’t the good stuff deserve equal time?

Quote of the Day – September 24 2011

““Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding… And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy”
― Khalil Gibran

and so I find my shell breaking. Feeling pain and working on finding the good in it. If not the good, at least trying to find meaning from what i feel wound me. I find the pursuit of this leading me into a profound understanding of sorts. -GAR

Quote of the Day – September 14 2011

“The best way to pay for a lovely moment is to enjoy it. ”
–Richard Bach

Looking for words of gentle wisdom–
Gratitude, Love, Peace, Unity, Diversity, Wisdom, Understanding, Truth, Freedom, Joy, Compassion
Yet all of these words have so many meanings, not only depending on who says them but when they say them as well. We sometimes make the mistake of expecting greater consistency from others than we do from ourselves.. To paraphrase Uncle Walt, I am huge, I contain multitudes. Wouldn’t it be foolish then if I expected something different from others. Don’t they get to contain multitudes as well. Yet the above words and many others do give me solace. They all express concepts to me that I often hold dear. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t abused them. I have not been the most faithful with my concept of any of them yet I’ve been working on it.
Funny thing, very few of these words can exist in a vacuum. They all speak of relationship, not only to others but to ourselves, and to the Youniverse that exists in each of us..
Just a few thoughts that have bubbled up to the surface tonight.
