Changing the Small Things

“Try to find pleasure in the speed that you’re not used to. Changing the way you do routine things allows a new person to grow inside of you. But when all is said and done, you’re the one who must decide how you handle it.”
― Paulo Coelho

How can we continue to complain about our lives if we are unwilling to make changes in how we do things? Changing little things can break the ice and make it easier to either make greater incremental changes (baby steps) or get us over the fear of change altogether and allow us to make sweeping changes and build the new lives we dream of. It can start with one small change in our routine. Taking a different route to work or eating something new for breakfast. Perhaps try to do something with a different hand than normal. Once we open the way to change than the transformation begins.

The Conquest of Joy

“Joy is sometimes a blessing, but it is often a conquest. Our magic moment help us to change and sends us off in search of our dreams. Yes, we are going to suffer, we will have difficult times, and we will experience many disappointments — but all of this is transitory it leaves no permanent mark. And one day we will look back with pride and faith at the journey we have taken.”
― Paulo Coelho

Imagine a time when all the scars you wear on your being fade away because you have dealt fully with all the wounds that left them. Imagine that we have found the joy in every moment that we have lived and say “Yes that too was for a reason, that too brought me here.” Imagine that we  have come to the point where we are living the best version of every dream that we have ever had for ourselves and facing everything that comes our way with an equanimity that we never knew we possessed. Perhaps this all starts with the conquest of joy. I have always known that being happy and feeling  joy was a possible decision at almost any point but perhaps when we find that decision to be the harder one to make we can conquer joy and make it anyway. I’m willing to attempt those conquests. How about you?
Walk in beauty and live in Joy.

Quote of the Day – March 2 2013

“By sharing something, I realize that I’m not alone, that there are a lot of people that share with me the same preoccupations, the same ideas, the same ideals and the same quest for a meaning for this life.”
— Paulo Coelho

Sometimes lonely but never alone. How can I be when there are so many sharing the journey with me? Oh they walk their own paths but more often than not paths intersect and I am joined by wondrous beings. Some of them are caught up in struggles as I have been, as I will be and if I can help  I do for interaction and mutual aid are key on this journey. Sometimes a kind word can mean everything. Sometimes the best intentioned of help is rebuffed. That’s ok, trying to force another to accept help is a sucker’s game tho sometimes they may curse us now and bless us afterwards. Retroactive consent is part of the journey as well.

Quote of the Day – February 17 2013

“Break the glass, please, and free us from all these damned rules, from needing to find an explanation for everything, from doing only what others approve of.”
― Paulo Coelho

Stray Insights and rhyme bits… tonight, If you like them feed them and take them home. Nurture them and they may grow. Otherwise leave them for another’s warmth and or pity…

“Without extremes, without those of us who go off to the edges of life to hang out with the dragons that there be where would any of us be?”

“Crucial and to me the most important thing… not getting stuck.. i mean i can go the rationalist route as long as i can still believe ‘seven impossible things before breakfast’. After coffee i can be all about confirmation”

“incontinent with my confidence… words get syntaxed and meanings get puncturated …Any Dick with a dictionary can have words but essence essentially sits within…”

Quote of the Day – February 11 2013

“You have passed through the two hardest tests on the spiritual road: the patience to wait for the right moment and the courage not to be disappointed with what you encounter.”
― Paulo Coelho

If you enjoy the path you travel (and why be on a path you don’t or can’t enjoy?) then disappointment becomes about as unlikely as boredom. I still get surprised by the number of interesting thoughtful even whimsical people who speak of being bored. Why do I see them as being more interesting than they see themselves? Of course others might not enjoy punning contests with themselves as much as I do or thinking of the most bizarre thing I may encounter next. Patience tho becomes a bit trickier. I still find myself tempted at times to make things happen when patience is a better course. Still that’s getting better as well…

Quote of the Day – January 14 2013

“We must never stop dreaming. Dreams provide nourishment for the soul, just as a meal does for the body. Many times in our lives we see our dreams shattered and our desires frustrated, but we have to continue dreaming. If we don’t, our soul dies, and agape cannot reach it.”
― Paulo Coelho

Sometimes dreams can bring up things that we never imagined. We see ourselves in a way that we never have before and new potentials arise. Other times our pasts enter into the fray and we see scenes that we revisit and gain a whole new understanding. Sometimes we’re given a vision and we wake up knowing that we have to see it through. It could be something as mundane as asking a certain person out or going to see a movie. Other times it can be something life altering where a new goal arises…that we feel compelled to see through. I’ve been lucky in that i have followed those dreams into heartbreak, into madness and occasionally into love. The most important things I’ve learned about dreams is to never run away from them…

Quote of the Day – December 19 2012

“We can see the Divine in each speck of dust, but that doesn’t stop us from wiping it away with a wet sponge. The Divine doesn’t disappear; it’s transformed into the clean surface.”
― Paulo Coelho

Transformation is constant. It may sound cliche but I feel like I’ve spent more time becoming than I have spent being anything. Tho through everything, the good times, the bad times, the disasters, the blessings (and with good reason Carlos Castaneda says to see both of those as merely challenges rather than assign value judgements), the horrible acts that people do to each other and the wonderful acts of kindness and heroism that take place every day. There’s no part of any of it that’s not divine. If you think of the universe perfect and complete beyond time and space there are no disasters merely a different spot of colour in a multi-dimensional tapestry.

Starry Night Mandala

Starry Night Mandala by G A Rosenberg

Quote of the Day – Dec 8 2012

“You have to take risks, he said. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen. Every day, God gives us the sun–and also one moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy. Every day, we try to pretend that we haven’t perceived that moment, that it doesn’t exist–that today is the same as yesterday and will be the same as tomorrow. But if people really pay attention to their everyday lives, they will discover that magic moment. It may arrive in the instant when we are doing something mundane, like putting our front-door key in the lock; it may lie hidden in the quiet that follows the lunch hour or in the thousand and one things that all seem the same to us. But that moment exists–a moment when all the power of the stars becomes a part of us and enables us to perform miracles.”
― Paulo Coelho

What was the magic moment of your day? How can you nurture that moment, sustain it and cause it to grow into a magical time… I think that the method that Paulo Coelho suggests to discover the moment in the first place. Paying attention. Tere are times when our attention, our focus is the most legitimate coin that we have, perhaps most of the time.

Quote of the Day – November 16 2012

“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”
― Paulo Coelho, Brida

A gourmet tastes sparingly of everything. A gourmand takes life with gusto taking large bites. In what ways are we like gourmets and which ways gourmands. So often when meeting new people and new ideas I find myself rushing in full force, trying to drink it all in at once and immerse myself. Occasionally this has landed me pretty deeply into situations that then took quite awhile to extricate myself. . Should I have been more hesitant in those situations. Creeping in sparingly and getting the lay of the land first. Perhaps, but more often than not, I knew that the unknown depths contained dragons and I accepted the fact, wanting a ride on scaly wings maybe. I was hungry for experience. I still am. Nothing can hook me faster than when I find myself presented with a totally new outlook on life even when I see the dragon’s eyes looking back at me..

Electric Crossroads by G A Rosenberg

Quote of the Day – November 13 2012

“If only everyone could know and live with their inner craziness. Would the world be a worse place for it? No, people would be fairer and happier.”
― Paulo Coelho

We try so hard to keep our inner lunatic down and tame. We fear what people may think if they were privy to our innermost thoughts and selves. Yet what percentage of the people that you know do you consider nuts or at least slightly off? From what I have seen, many people feel that way at one time or another about at least half of the people they know and probably at least half of the people they know believe it about them. What would your life be like if you never had to worry about what anyone including yourself thought about your mental health. What leaps would be possible for you? What insights and heights of creativity would you rise to?
