Name It

“To name something is to wait for it in the place you think it will pass.”
— Amiri Baraka

Name your fears
Name your hopes
Name your dreams
Name your loves and your hates
for to name something
gives you power over it.
You can call on something that has a name
You can invoke it and evoke it
Draw it out into the open
and deal with it openly.
Compare that to a nameless dread
or a feeling of hope
or a breath of love.
Naming it makes it real.

Words Daggered and Healing

“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”

~ Patrick Rothfuss

Words like daggers
aimed towards my heart
We war with our tongues and minds
each dying the death of a thousand cuts
tares in the flesh
and tears in the eyes
and it all seems to lose meaning
as the love bleeds out

Words of healing
a balm for the soul
We comfort and seek to mend the pain
each grieving what has been lost through war
wiping the tears
bandaging the tares
we seek to find the meaning
and relight the flame.

The Power of Quiet

Power is often very quiet.
— Williams S. Burroughs

A Whisper in a quiet room can be deafening. When someone who normally speaks with booming tones can gain instant attention with a choked whisper. Power does not have to be loud or flashy. It is known by its nature, felt intrinsically by others with an energetic exchange. It is a matter of aural not oral intensity. Lay quietly in the dark. Let your mind float and listen. Amidst the echoes of the past day and the grumblings of your stomach, hear the whispers that come to you from your hidden depths. They are all too easy to ignore during waking hours but they will reveal layers of your being that were hidden. Not all will be reassuring and those are the ones that hold the most power. Hear what they are saying and understand the parts that you keep locked away. Those whispers are the keys. They don’t need to be acted on just acknowledged.
Blessings, G

What Makes Us Present…

“Opportunities? They are all around us … There is power lying latent everywhere waiting for the observant eye to discover it.”
–Orison Swett Marden

There are so many moments in each day that I find empowering. Anything that can make me laugh or smile or lift me out of whatever has entrapped my thoughts and brings me into the present moment. It could be the way a bird is flying through the air. It could be children playing or animals living up to their nature. It could be the attractive way that someone walks by me or a particularly beautiful pair of eyes. I see the light hitting the side of a building or hear waves rushing against the sand. I love those sublime moments and I realize for everyone I see that there are a thousand others that I miss because I am caught up in anywhere or anytime other than where I am. Anything that makes me present empowers me. I am grateful.
Blessings, G

Tarot Post – Four of Pentacles

Four of Pentacles (Power)

Four of Pentacles (N)Four of Pentacles (Reimagined) by G A Rosenberg

Holding too tightly
coins slip from an old man’s grasp
order tossed aside.

Power contained not held
not grasped
willing to let it pour forth
and rise up and out at any moment
All comes from this moment
once embedded in matter then
only liberation remains
power when wielded becomes force
Rise up oh serpent mother
through this material form
as green springs up through snow
reborn
Let the spirit flow forth
from fractured shell

–G A Rosenberg

The suit of Pentacles refers to the element of Earth and of practical matters such as work and partnerships of a business nature and of the home. They can also represent nature, the Earth itself.  Fours express a stability and manifestation of the energy involved. The Four of Pentacles represents a grounding of energy and taking comfort in control of our environment whether it means holding on to a schedule or our possessions. We clothe ourselves in our idea of order. While this can give us some necessary structure if we adhere to rigidly to either what we have or where we have to be, anything that throws it can make us feel insecure and there is always something that can come along and throw off our sense of order, so some flexibility can be a good thing.

Astrological Correspondence: Sun in Capricorn-The Sun in Capricorn energy is known for its ambition and control. It tends to take charge and like a goat feels that only by controlling the situation fully that it can make it to the top of the mountain. It is an energy that achieves but one that can be all too ready to engage and defeat anything that stands between it and its ambitions even if in the long run, that challenge can be a positive thing.

This hexagram comprised of upper and lower trigrams of Earth refers to nature as opposed to space. It works best when it nourishes all and recommends letting go of the reigns of control and yielding at times. Tho it is important to be self-sufficient no one is an island and others are needed in order for our ambitions to be realized and that sometimes it is beneficial to yield control to those who can best help us realize those ambitions. Sometimes letting things happen can be as necessary as making things happen.

When the Four of Pentacles occurs in a reading, it can tell us that we are holding on too tightly to external control structures and possessions rather than grounding ourselves securely within ourselves and our relationship to nature. In other cases, the card can also represent generosity and sharing what one has.

Reversed the card can refer to a breaking down of our lives structure and a need to connect more to our inner selves where the real power lies through meditation or contemplation of nature. It can also refer to a hesitation to help another.
