A Surreal Date

““What is important is to spread confusion, not eliminate it.”
― Salvador Dalí

Whisper to me of the sandwiches you dreamed of. Show me the combination of tastes and colours that excites you. Give me your interest and I will try to gently hold it until it is time to put it down. We’ll walk in the ennui of wilted conversations and plant seeds for future entertainment. We’ll step over the drunk in the alleyway (making sure he’s comfortable) and continue beneath the polluted skies of our inner city dance floor. You’ll leave me wanting more and I’ll leave you caring less. Tho I still hear the line of tears beneath you.
Blessings, G

Morning Surrealism (or why people shouldn’t talk to me within 10 minutes of waking up – A Surreal Consciousness Stream)

“Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.”
― Salvador Dalí

There are mornings when my brain wakes up manic. If someone speaks to me (or texts me) I may start a babbling monologue as my brain wakes up, loosely playing off what they say but making it strange. It is the operating system booting up tho this morning I got a bit poetic…

This is control — this is control — you must believe as I do or I shall consider you unenlightened…thank you for asking. I will seek to provide an answer so that questions like yours will not be asked again. You may exit to fun Way. This is control

Find Christ – Find God – Find your HGA – Find your 7/11 — Hail Satan – Hail Eris — Heil Hitler and his little moustaches — so like granny

She liked Eva Braun too. Mrs brown you’ve got a lovely daughter sung in a German accent. I used to be Germanic-Depressive but I balanced it out.
Yes be dominant — go for what you want — stand up and be counted — tell everyone what for and what it is
Look them in the eye stand with your shoulders apart and say ‘FLErG
FLERG. That Mary poppins bitch stole the other one
You know she was a thyme lord? She went to Scarborough Fair in the Tardis; Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thymelord just to spice things up. These other dimensions take you there.
But yes take control… just leave a bit so everyone can have some…That way we can all push the button together and we have liftoff

Outrageous!!

“I have Dalinian thought: the one thing the world will never have enough of is the outrageous.”
— Salvador Dali

Many people find the outrageous offensive. It goes against their grain to see people defying social conventions and upsetting the apple cart. That is precisely why the outrageous is so necessary. Outrageousness takes us out of our comfort zone both as individuals and as groups. If we see someone eating something we consider vile or acting in a way that upsets us such as two men kissing or a woman breastfeeding her baby in a restaurant, especially if we have never seen the actions before, it expands our idea of what is possible. What other beautiful acts can happen in a world where normally narcissistic people can pull together and help each other out in a crisis. If we see acts of love performed in front of us, what other expressions of love are possible? Each act of outrageousness expands our world and perhaps the reason why people protest against outrageous acts is because of the fear of having that expansion happen in their world.

Surrealistic Symbol Play

“Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.”
― Salvador Dalí

I deal in symbols and meanings both my own and that of others. For symbols are the truest language from which all others derive. We look at the world and filter what we see through symbols both universal and uniquely our own. When we play with symbols, mixing and matching them, we create waking dreams in which we can gain new understanding and thus stretch our understanding of ourselves and the universe. We create possibilities and relationships that did not exist before, opening new pathways in our psyche.

The Emperor’s New Paradox

“You have to systematically create confusion, it sets creativity free. Everything that is contradictory creates life”
― Salvador Dalí

I trust contradiction and paradox. It’s comforting to know that as soon as one point of view is expressed, an equal and opposite run arrives especially as we increase the scope of the question. When we are confused our mind becomes open to possibility and imagination.
Don’t get me wrong. I can enjoy and appreciate certainty. Some people wear it well and it seems to look good on them. Of course you look again and it starts looking like the Emperor’s new clothes… brilliant garments he was taught to believe existed when in reality he parades around naked…secure in the fact that no one will gainsay him. Yet children always know or those with the heart of a child. The child hears people admiring the Emperor’s clothes and gets more and more confused until he speaks out his confusion and people see that the Emperor’s clothes, his certainties never existed in the first place.
So I will continue speaking paradox and avoiding certainty. I may never get dressed but at least I’ll be creative.

To know but not Be sure…

“Just Say Know”
― Timothy Leary

“What is important is to spread confusion, not eliminate it.”
― Salvador Dalí

Yes we can know but then not consistently and what we know can often lead to doubt. Confusion? Let’s hope so. If I know with too much certainty than I can no longer learn for learning implies ignorance cured. May learning be the destination but may the confusing journey last an eternity so that each thing learned bring  joy and yet more questions, more contradictions and yes more confusion. Confusion is the area outside of our maps. Confusion exists outside our comfort zone and confusion causes leaps. May the mists of confusion and the clear skies of knowledge continue to interact with my understanding forever.

Quote of the Day – October 24 2012

“What is important is to spread confusion, not eliminate it.”
― Salvador Dalí

I prefer confusion to utter unshakeable certainty… Confusion oft gives way to insight…Certainty to a dead end. When we’re sure of something we tend to stop asking questions and use what we’re sure of as a sign post…when we question and allow a bit of confusion in, all becomes discovery. It might feel a bit less comfortable but we tend to grow the most when pushed out of our comfort zone. The more our life becomes like a zen buddhist koan, “What did our face look like before our parents were born?” or some such the more we can open up and contain possibilities.. Or maybe it’s all an excuse and like Johnny Depp I like what confusion does to my facial expressions. 🙂
