Scars

“Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real.”
― Cormac McCarthy

On my shoulder there is a mark
A statue broken against it
It drew blood
as the feelings of jealousy washed over me.
My foot, I cut that as a child
playing games of innocence and laughter
Some scars make you smile.
That line under my lip
I ran into a fence hitchhiking
long roads and many songs brought back
by reflection.
The gash through my heart tho
that came from you
bittersweet memories
and a hopeless dream of being marked again.

The Tear

“I did not know how to reach him, how to catch up with him… The land of tears is so mysterious.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

You watched in silence
your old home torn apart
not one word spoken
I didn’t know what to say
and you
you showed nothing
one tear washed down your cheek
and it was over
I would have saved that tear
like a precious gem
or kissed it away
The tears we shed in silence
the blood of emotion escapes
and it is gone
leaving only echoes
somewhere in our soul
Tho you cried
somehow it was shared
tho I couldn’t touch you
and the release
like the memory
is gone.

Laughter and Tears

“Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning do to do afterward.”
― Kurt Vonnegut

I’ve learned to laugh at my pain
the exquisite agony
of healing echoes of the past
I save my tears for beauty
naked bodies
of water, forest and human
the kindness done just because
service accepted and given
without a balance
Your eyes in firelight and your skin in moonlight
any of these can make me weep
out of joy, out of love and out of gratitude
tears heal the laughter
laughter the tears
we find balance in life’s stream.

Dealing With Frustration

“Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning do to do afterward.”
― Kurt Vonnegut

Of course another reaction to frustration may be to throw things around and yell and scream but ultimately that can lead to even more cleaning up than crying. I have known frustration. That of trying to learn something or do it perfectly and falling short time and time again. I have also known the frustration of falling short of my expectations of myself tho more often than not that came from a point of believing better of myself than I actually was at the time. I know the frustration of computer crashes. Even moreI have known the frustration of seeing how much hurt there is in the world and not being able to help enough. Sometimes I have even been aware of another’s pain and I did not know how or whether to give solace and that is a frustration in its own right. Lately I have been able to see the element in myself that is the sad clown and find amusement in that image. May our frustrations never give into despair no matter how many times we try and don’t succeed. The only true failure comes from not making the attempt.

Quote of the Day – May 19 2012

“My eyes were glued on life
and they were full of tears.”
― Jack Kerouac

Man raises his hand
A smaller being cowers
tears fall from my eyes

A country insists
only some people matter
tears fall from my eyes

when someone forgets
they’re a human being first
tears fall from my eyes

Pollute and Consume
Wound the heart of our mother
tears fall from my eyes

When despite it all
I realize love still exists
tears fall from my eyes

Haikus are wonderfully clearing for the mind, kind of like five finger exercises for the piano

I have felt a bit disjointed as my writing may convey–Communication’s a funny thing init– Still feels like i’m transitioning from something to something tho it could just be the upcoming eclipse..

Still in talking to you I have found a new venue for communicating with myself for which I thank you.
