☐ Think (Think Outside the Box)

“Begin each day by telling yourself: Today I shall be meeting with interference, ingratitude, insolence, disloyalty, ill will, and selfishness— all of them due to the offender’s ignorance of what is good and evil. That people of a certain type should behave as they do is inevitable. To wish it otherwise were to wish the fig-tree would not yield its juice.”
— Marcus Aurelius

What is your reality box made out of? Some boxes are made of iron and nothing can get in or out. Whatever is in there will stay the way it was even after the world turns to dust around it? Those who keep their views of reality in a box like that will never have to be concerned about change or growth. It is a prison cell for their evolution with no time off for good behaviour.
Some boxes are made of reinforced cardboard. Anything that is within can be carried and until the box is unsealed, its contents will stay secured. They can’t stand a lot of rough handling tho. If something outside the box wants in, it will get there eventually. Someone who keeps their reality in a box like that is capable of change and might even enjoy new things. If only they could get through all that damn packing tape.
For me, the perfect box would be made of some kind of permeable plastic. It can be easily opened and its contents exchanged and there is air and room inside for them to breathe. Oh they may get stale after awhile but that’s ok, most viewpoints do when confronted by the outside air. The container only starts to smell bad if there is unwillingness to exchange the contents for others that work better. A good cleaning every now and then helps.

Thoughts on Ultimate Freedom

The aim of human life is to know thyself. Think for yourself. Question authority. Think with your friends. Create, create new realities. Philosophy is a team sport. Philosophy is the ultimate, the ultimate aphrodisiac pleasure. Learning how to operate your brain, learning how to operate your mind, learning how to redesign chaos.
-Timothy Leary

We create new worlds and inhabit our fictions. Our imaginations take us to real places that defy conventional thinking. Each moment is a chance to take something from the worlds inside our heads and manifest it externally. It can be art, music, drama, recipes or ourselves. By recreating the world we defy the rules of standardization. The truth is that while there may be laws the only rules we have are the ones we make for ourselves. That can mean living within society’s laws or outside of them being willing to take responsibility for our thoughts and actions and the consequences that may result from them. Ultimately we have total freedom. This tends to frighten the rule makers and keepers of society senseless but in reality we are the ones in control. That’s a frightening thought for many which is why so few are willing to think outside the box. It can be amazingly liberating to do so however.

The Play’s the Thing…

“You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.”
― Alan Wilson Watts

The stage is set. The universe manifests itself as settings and props. Then it imagines characters that will interact with the props and each other. Each of these people is a unique aspect of the universe as it seldom sees much point in duplicating itself. After all there is an infinite palette to chose from and both all time and no-time in which to play it all out. The characters take on a life of their own as well-created characters are wont to do. Who knows, perhaps some of them may even break out of their pre-designed scripts going places well beyond its spec. This has happened before and the universe delights in it feeling the recursive thrill of co-creation. Others will not, at least not at this point in the universal show yet given infinite no-time there is always the hope that they too may do something unexpected. The play is always in progress…. and roll tape…
