Tarot Post – Three of Pentacles

Three of Pentacles (Work / Art)

Three of PentaclesThree of Pentacles (Revised) by G A Rosenberg

He Perfects his art.

Realizing inner visions

he then manifests

So hard I’ve worked
to learn my craft
endless hours where every mistake possible was made
Now the show
the lights, the glow
the people coming around to see
what new masterpiece the artist has designed
Yet still the art
flows through
and a new creation awaits

Story: The cabinet maker had spent years as an apprentice learning his trade. As a journeyman, he perfected it learning what artistic flourishes to put in and how to make function flow into a form that both utilized space and was pleasing to the eye. Now he was a master and people came from miles around to be wait-listed for his next project. Today tho, his work was to be shown as if for the first time. Never was any contract more important. The princess strode in and looked regally upon his newest creation. He held his breath as she inspected his work. He had spend weeks on this, wanting it to be perfect but knowing that it would mean nothing if she was displeased. Her eyes lit up. “I love this dollhouse daddy, thank you, it’s beautiful”. “You’re welcome princess”, he said and hugged her tightly.

In the tarot  the suit of Pentacles refers to the element of Earth and of practical matters such as work and partnerships of a business nature and of the home. They can also represent nature, the Earth itself.  Threes deal with maturity, accomplishment and transmission of the energy involved. In the three of Pentacles, that transmission of practical energy is work accomplished or having something to show for it. Any piece of art or craftsmanship not only reflects the work put into it but the work ,  learning and time that has gone into everything the artist or craftsman has ever done before. It used to feel strange to me that some of the art that had taken me the least amount of time to do gets some of the best responses from people. Until my partner said to me, “Did it take two hours or did it take fifty years?”

Astrological Correspondence – Mars in Capricorn – This energy is very goal-oriented.  Hard work is done willingly in pursuit of something that needs to be accomplished. This involves concentration and order in a creative fashion.

I Ching Correspondence – 13) Tung Jên “Fellowship with Men</h4>

The trigram of Heaven is over that of Flame.  The one weak line among the five strong shows flexibility within a strong order. In fellowship, there is great benefit if within a system, there can be some willingness to yield either for a better vision or to allow some creativity to show through.

In a reading the Three of Pentacles can refer to a time of learning and hard work paying off. It can denote recognition of effort and a feeling of accomplishment.

When it shows up reversed in a reading, it can represent a finished work that is mediocre. Something has been done to ‘get by’ rather than done with conscious effort. It may show that someone is not working to the best of their abilities

The suit of swords represents thought, ideas, plans and conflicts. Threes deal with maturity, accomplishment and transmission of the energy involved. Thought separates one thing from another for the purposes of comparing and contrasting, breaking down and analyzing. What is that energy of separation in its maturity but that of sorrow and loss. When we find separation from those we loved and cherished we feel grief. When we find that we can no longer hold on to things we once innocently believed there is grief as well.  Knowledge replaces faith and we grow wiser but sometimes it hurts. In the long run the separation itself is illusion tho. Every relationship (whether it be with beliefs, places or people) still exists and we still learn from it. They have just moved into the past.

Astrological Correspondence – Saturn in Libra- Saturn is the planet of hard lessons and when in Libra, the focus of the lessons is our relationships and partnerships. When our relationships come under scrutiny, then we notice the flaws and what we need to learn from it becomes apparent. This can often result in learning the lesson and moving on or learning the lesson and rebuilding the relationship using what we have learned.

The Trigram of the Heavens is over the Trigram of the Mountain  – When you don’t feel like you can interact in a fair way, then there may come a time of retreat or separation from that with which you are engaging. This is necessary in order to preserve your energies and marshall your strength. This does not mean running away as much as retreating from an overwhelming situation.

When the three of swords comes up in a reading, it often means separating from something or someone the querent has loved and the ensuing grief that that provides. Heartache.  It may counsel some time needed to reflect and heal.

When the three of swords comes out reversed in a reading, it may mean a clinging to old hurts and separations and an inability to move on and put them in the past. It can show someone who has not yet accepted the ‘gift’ of insight the separation gives.

Tarot Post – Three of Wands

Three of Wands (Virtue)

Three of WandsThree of Wands (Revised) by G A Rosenberg

Holding tight the flame

We learn to use our power.

Endless creation.

Ready to travel
I can see the road ahead
if not my destination.
I need not journey alone
tho we may not end together
eventually each man’s road diverges
from the rest
to travel now feels right
leaving behind a chapter complete
with little unfinished business
heading towards promise.
Now future facing
I begin.
– G A Rosenberg

Knowledge received
soon to transmit out
I understand now
how to use what I’ve been given
To channel it to others
to the world
even to the universe
I set my sights on the horizon
soon to manifest..
Now the journey can truly begin….
–G A Rosenberg

Wands deal with force, creative, spiritual, and vital. Threes deal with accomplishment, maturity and transmission of the energy involved. Combining these two energies, we have spiritual energy that is ready to transmit and receive . It is an accomplished force that energizes everything surrounding it. Looking at various versions of this card I am reminded of the beginning of Kahlil Gibran’s classic book The Prophet, where a man thought to be spiritually advanced and wise has been living on an island, teaching and inspiring people for a long period and now awaits the ship that will carry him home. Before he leaves he transmits the wisdom that has come into his care to give.
Tho even more this card represents a sending out of energy while staying behind and then a reception of energy. Again the idea of transmission

Astrological Correspondance – Sun in Aries – This energy always involves a moving and a sending forward. It is always moving forward  inspiring other energies to do the same, no matter where in their own situation they may find themselves..

I Ching Correspondance  – 50) Ting – “The Cauldron”
_______
___ ___
_______
_______
_______
___ ___

The Cauldron contains the idea of bringing to someone that which is needed and earned. In some ways its symbolism is reminiscent of the Grail. It contains food for the hungry and joy for those who have made others happy but may now deserve joy of their own. The trigram for Wind / Wood  is under the Trigram for Fire again indicating both transmission and fulfilment.  This is often a very auspicious hexagram to get as it means one has found his life’s path.

In a reading the Three of Wands talks about acting in accordance with nature both personal and in a wider sense. The path is known now all that remains is to follow it. If the person getting the reading is asking about whether a decision of theirs is the correct one in a moral sense, this card would answer with a resounding yes and that the path they are on is the correct one.

When the Three of Wands is reversed, it means that finding the right path and deciding on goals feels unreasonably blocked. That may very well be the keynote for the reversal of the Three of Wands, a blockage of energy.

Quote of the Day – July 15 2012

“To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest.”
― Pema Chödrön

When I was younger I used to move around a lot. I believe the longest I lived anyplace from the time I was 16 when I moved from my mother’s house to my father’s until I was 26 was about eight months and my life after that point took another ten years to settle down. With each move came various amounts of disillusionment, relief, excitement with a bit of fear. Each one increased my awareness to some extent. I threw myself down more rabbit holes than Alice ever dreamed of and came out the other side until I finally learned it was possible to learn from life without a great upheaval in physical circumstances.

Each new insight that we gain has the ability to rock our internal worlds. If we are conscious every time we discover that the universe is more or other than we have been told or believed our universe changes. Since the most we can ever understand of universal truth is a fraction this can happen every day. We are eternal children ever discovering that the universe is bigger than we’ve known. And so our fractal awareness grows.
Blessings, G

Quote of the Day – January 29 2012

“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
–Martin Luther King Jr.

What does it mean–to undertake something with painstaking excellence? Does it mean to get every detail right? Does it mean doing the utmost at every point to make it work? I would like to believe that when I work at anything, especially things that might be of value to others. I get intimidated by excellence. I would rather at this point anyway to paraphrase Sondheim, not worry that it not be perfect, just worry that it won’t be. Maybe what I do will not show painstaking excellence but getting closer and closer in intention. Namaste, G

_________

K’un – The Receptive, Earth over Ch’Ien The Creative Heaven
The creative is about to manifest
The beginning of spring
With Heaven beneath the earth, their powers can come together in deep harmony
Those above help out those below and all feuds are ended.
The Light is within, the dark without so the light has maximum influence (interplay) with the dark
The wise man knows how to use the energy put out to yield maximum results….

sun  (☉ ) in Aries (♈)
This energy involves taking -charge and leaping forward, it knowa what it wanst, how to get it and will let nothing get in its way. Like Spring expressing itself after winter. it doesn’t necessarily take others into account (other than how they fit into it’s plans)

III of Wands in readings:
Right side up (or well-aspected): The person asking acts in accordance with nature (both theirs and general). Depending on the other cards in the reading, one would seem to be on the right path. They have found their purpose and can proceed. A new understanding of one’s energy and how to use it.
Reversed (or badly-aspected)-Finding goals and what one’s path feels difficult. Acting outside or out of harmony with one’s nature. Feeling blocked..

Dialogue

The ever present question:
— What do you do?
— Well, right now I’m breathing.
No, What do you do for work, I mean?
— Oh, well I write some, I do some photo collage work, I make videos
You make money doing that stuff?
— Not a lot but its what I do
What do you do for money?
–Spend it mainly. Every so often I try to give it a good home
Wise ass! No, I mean what do you do to make money (and don’t even say anything about no printing press, you do know what I mean
–Oh Ok, I say placatingly. I raise foster kids with disabilities, I also teach computer skills on the side. Family money augments the rest.
Ah, why didn’t you say so? He thinks he has me all figured out now.
–You didn’t ask
Yeah I did
— No you asked me what I did for work. I guess the real answer to that would be that I try to understand. I try to figure out the universe and how I’m connected to it and what it means. What is it that connects me with everything else and what part of me connects to it?  In other words, I do myself.
You do yourself?
–Yes I seem to be a work in progress…

I Ching 13: Tung Jen (Community or Fellowship with Men

Above:  Ch’ien (The creative Heaven)
Below: Li (Fire, Clinging)
It is natural for fire to flame up to heaven thus the idea of community (think tribes sitting around the ascending fire, telling tales). It takes the passive 2nd line that ties it all together. There is a need for a yielding member with clarity among the dominants to hold the community together.
In a community, each must work (persist) towards the needs of the community as a whole. For the community to work tho, there is a need for a leader with clarity, who’d job may be to decide rather than to do…
For society to work there has to be organization within the differences, one man must be able to have the vision

Mars in Capricorn – a purposeful subtle energy; quiet and controlled way of looking at life; goal-oriented and future minded, they have their eyes on the star and go for it…
A controlled energy; almost wrapped to tight but they tend to get what they go after

In readings:
when this card comes out, it usually holds indications for the work environment- with the possibilities for both trouble and achievement. There is often in my experience a note of being watched (either in a being groomed or probationary type of way)
Reversed:
Often indicates work not going well. someone isn’t happy with job performance, usually this has to do with a job not enjoyed or just not working up to one’s best efforts…

When the Dark Ascends, the light retreats willingly
so the dark won’t crowd it out, thus do things happen naturally cyclically
It benefits one to understand the difference between retreat and flight
Timing is key and it is best to deal from a position of strength and choose one’s time

The Three of Swords (according to Aleister Crowley) is “dark and heavy” with “storm broods under implacable night” While other descriptions deal with a feeling of mourning or loss.
