Secrets and Answers

“I want to be with those who know secret things or else alone.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

I want to know the secret hearts of those around me. I want to know how to make joy from pain. How do we awaken the parts of man that works for the benefit of all at the expense of our greed? What is the beginnings of mankind and what happens after we die? How do we make someone love us again once we start? What is the secret to loneliness? Whisper the secrets to me and I will share them….

Meaning , More or Less

All phenomena are real in some sense, unreal in some sense, meaningless in some sense, real and meaningless in some sense, unreal and meaningless in some sense, and real and unreal and meaningless in some sense.
— Robert Anton Wilson

If you believe that your life is the be all and end all of meaningful existence:
Imagine if you were a housewife in Tennessee how you would see your current priorities. An owner of a retail business in London would have a whole different set of priorities. So would an accountant in Madrid. A voudon priest in South America would see things totally different than any of them. For each of these cases, what is real, what is unreal and what has meaning and what doesn’t would be very different. This is not necessarily a measure of their spiritual progress or ours. It is just a case of the relativity of experience that most of us miss out on.
Yet in this kaleidoscope of experience we can change our perspective and find a totally different picture or several.

With the Moon

“With freedom, books, flowers and the moon, who could not be happy?”
— Oscar Wilde

Overhead bright and full
in my head, clouds
night fallen and muddled
feeling my tides pulled
tho no water’s in sight
Drained through
with no thought of delight
yet the tide will come in
and things will come clear
but for now I find myself wandering
She sure is pretty tho
wondering
beaming through the clouds
her shadows throw me
but still I’ll follow the moon.

Wistful

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
— Leonardo da Vinci

Longing for my flying days
my travel days
the road never-ending
and the sky going on forever
I tell myself
the familiar tale
of satisfaction the everyday
and that roots enable growth
I’ve raised a life
and a family
and found beauty in
the routineless routine
yet then I see sky
or a patch of the open road
and I remember
the trapped freedom of wingless flight.

What I Owe My Fears

“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke

My fears have given me so much that I will feel forever in their debt. Without my fear I would never know bravery or at least bravado. They have taught me to face them because avoidance of my fears stopped working. They have taught me transformation. When I was able to face my fears, some transformed into smoke and vanished while others transformed into teachers and dancing partners. They have shown me strength by exposing my weakness and love by standing in its way. They have removed my doubts because my doubts have always belonged to them. Most of all they have taught me gratitude in their passing because my fears have always given me so much.

Between the Covers

“You find certain writers who when they write, it makes your own brain voice like a tuning fork, and you just resonate with them … And I sometimes have a hard time understanding how people who don’t have that in their lives make it through the day.”
— David Foster Wallace

I rarely get bored. Not that I don’t find certain chores tedious, its that when I am doing them I can send my mind and self travelling elsewhere. Also whenever I find myself with long periods with nothing to do I pick up a book. Reading has been one of my favourite activities since I was six and there are writers and characters with whom I’ve had deeper relationships with than the majority of people I’ve met. Plus as long as I have a book to pick up, I know I will not be bored.
That isn’t to say I believe that books are the be-all and end-all of existence. Some things need to be experienced in order to make them real. Tho it is always books I will return to in my downtime.
