Entertaining Strangers

“The purpose of poetry is to remind us
how difficult it is to remain just one person,
for our house is open, there are no keys in the doors,
and invisible guests come in and out at will.”
— Czesław Miłosz

The stranger in my mind was there again or maybe it was someone else. I never know who I’ll meet in there.
One claimed to be a god worshipped long ago. He offered to grant me powers and visions of my journey Another was a little girl crying for her mother. One took comfort and the other gave peace. Which was which you may guess.
There was a writer seeking dreams and a doctor seeking patience. Only one was satisfied.
The angry young man protested the injustice of his life and the judge gave her hard wise wisdom.
The goddess gave succour and the god gave wild dreams.
The business man had a drink and the begger gave him a dollar.
They come and they go parading past the mirror that shows my reflection.
An entire company of one.
Blessings, G
