Bowed But Not Beaten (Redux)
Quotes, More Quotes and a Few Stray Thoughts
Tonight some rapid fire quotes and comments just to mix things up a bit:
“You are precisely as big as what you love and precisely as small as what you allow to annoy you.”
Robert Anton Wilson
So many reasons for working on our shadow selves and this is one of the best.. What good is it to love the universe (love universally) if you become irritated at little things that parts of it do and say? The cognitive dissonance that this can bring up alone makes it a good idea to deal with those raw parts of ourself.
“It is a thousand times better to make every kind of mistake than to slide into the habit of hesitation, of uncertainty, of indecision.”
— Aleister Crowley, Magick Without Tears
Uncertainty and Hesitation tend to be parts of my own shadow. When choices seem equal and they almost always do, it becomes difficult to choose. Still gradually I am learning to lead with my chin and choosing rather than leaving it to others or to the universe. It is my own learning to take responsibility.
It’s done by hurling yourself into the abyss, and discovering that it’s a feather bed.
There’s no other way to do it.”
— Terence McKenna
In combination with the quote above, it is sometimes better to take that leap towards self-knowledge and empowerment and be willing to risk the changes that it may bring rather than to stall out at the edge. It might be a featherbed or I might end up like a Loony Toons character running on air and falling but I will make those leaps and if I fall I will rise again.

Outrageous!!
“I have Dalinian thought: the one thing the world will never have enough of is the outrageous.”
— Salvador Dali
Many people find the outrageous offensive. It goes against their grain to see people defying social conventions and upsetting the apple cart. That is precisely why the outrageous is so necessary. Outrageousness takes us out of our comfort zone both as individuals and as groups. If we see someone eating something we consider vile or acting in a way that upsets us such as two men kissing or a woman breastfeeding her baby in a restaurant, especially if we have never seen the actions before, it expands our idea of what is possible. What other beautiful acts can happen in a world where normally narcissistic people can pull together and help each other out in a crisis. If we see acts of love performed in front of us, what other expressions of love are possible? Each act of outrageousness expands our world and perhaps the reason why people protest against outrageous acts is because of the fear of having that expansion happen in their world.

Representing Our Species
“You are an explorer, and you represent our species, and the greatest good you can do is to bring back a new idea, because our world is endangered by the absence of good ideas. Our world is in crisis because of the absence of consciousness.”
― Terence McKenna
When is the last time you explored your world? By that I mean when is the last time you woke up and looked at your every day existence as a stranger, someone who had never seen it before and questioned what you saw and experienced? Does it all make sense? What wonders did you see that you might have missed experiencing it in the same old way? What new insights did the stranger in your life reveal to you and what were you able to do with it? We live so much of our lives accepting that what we experience is normal and forgetting that there is no such thing. How good a representative of our species are we? Isn’t that a great question to ask ourselves perhaps each day?

Forever Journey
“Come from forever, and you will go everywhere.”
― Arthur Rimbaud
Forever I come from
yet have lost my way in the moment
Distracted by visions
of mortality
and drunk on the banality
of the scheduled existence.
With limitless potential
I reside in a universal corner
and wide-range travel
only in visions and dreams
tho those often hold more truth
than what I face daily.
Oh to brave potential
and entwine myself in chaotic wanderings
rather than embrace limits
Freedom is a step away
and a second’s eternal journey.

No Path But My Own
“To go wrong in one’s own way is better then to go right in someone else’s.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky
This belief that we know better for anyone but ourselves is a pestilence, a means of control and manipulation that can strangle the will and crush the spirit from any.Equally foul is the conceit that others know better our needs than ourselves for that is the way to sheepdom. It’s better to learn from all without absolutes enjoying the contradictions that arise and holding the paradoxes while listening to that spirit and will within us and trust to its guidance. Thru uncomfortable paradox we learn more than any teacher could show us. Yes by choosing my path I’ll screw up but I’ll do it magnificently. My life has always been a series of falls and rises and will continue to do so. Our mistakes can be great teachers as well. For ultimately each person’s way is unique and the most anyone can show is their own path which may illuminate our own but never determine it.
