Connections – Made and Lost

“Invisible connection is stronger than visible. To arrive at the basic structure of things we must go into their darkness.”
— Heraclitus

I reach out to your touch
something unspoken pulls back
connection falters

Your touch caresses
my back as I rub your feet
Connection is made

Something inside me
pulls away from your embrace
connection is lost

I touch inner wounds
with my own scarred memories
Connection is real
— G A Rosenberg

So many of us hide our shadows and our scars not only from others but ourselves as well. We put on our game faces even with those we love and keep so much buried. What happens then is a connection of masks and many judge the strength of their relationship on how well their personas interrelate without ever going deeper. Since many of us change our personas over the years as life happens, the relationships fall apart because neither one has met the true being of the other. It is only by delving deeper and making ourselves vulnerable that true inner connection can happen even if that means showing the less savoury parts of ourselves. You can always tell when that happens between people as it results in healing and self-knowledge rather than a feeling of holding a telephone to one’s ear long after the other person has hung up their line.

Dancing In and Out of the Abyss

“The process of delving into the black abyss is to me the keenest form of fascination.”
— H.P. Lovecraft

Dancing from light into dark and dark into light
seeing how far the pendulum swings
Becoming your shadow to see how it feels
revelling to see how deep they go
when perceptions can’t be trusted
and then reversing it
jumping from the darkness into the day
feeling the sun and the surface
enjoying the senses and the joy
and that rising feeling
and then reversing it
the push and the pull
the false and the real
the depths and the shallows
the flow and the ebb tide
as you’re washed to the sea
and crushed beneath the waves
and then rise up surfing the next crest
only to sink again
making the dance a conscious one
bringing wisdom in its sway

Inspiration – A list

“For instance, someone who watches the stars in the sky assumes that they are millions of light-years away from him. Yet, the stars are right inside himself, at the center of vision of his brain. While you watch this film, you are, in truth, not inside the room you assume yourself to be in. On the contrary, the room is inside you. Your seeing your body makes you think that you are inside of it. However, you must remember that your body, too, is an image formed inside your brain.”
— Harun Yahya

Things That Inspire Me:

  • Music- the genre doesn’t seem to matter but songs that have certain qualities at certain times
  • Colour – colour combination, such as those found in campfires and sunsets and certain flowers, skies and eyes.
  • People-Whether at their most ridiculous or most heroic or most despairing. So many I carry with me in my mind and heart.
  • Animals-Some of my deepest wisdom or what passes for it has come from four legged family members.
  • Art and Literature – Both have given me so much.
  • Imagination-Our purest gift from our own spirits.

The list could go on with many specifics in each category. Somewhere there is an opposite list of things that cause me to lose hope and oddly enough, the categories on that list would not be so very different. We carry a world of contradictions inside of us as well as a world of joy, despair and the spectrum in between.

Letting the Feelings Flow Through

“Nature is playful and terrible. Some see the playful side and dally with it and let it sparkle. Others see the horror and cover their heads and are more dead than alive. The way does not lead between both, but embraces both. It is both cheerful play and cold horror.”
— Carl Jung

Resist not your feelings
Your nature is wild and strong
The times that you are raging
you’re only withstanding the storm
Don’t hide your head neath the covers
feel them with all of your might
the storm that’s intense will pass by you
leaving behind peaceful night

Emotions are just like our weather
clear skies and cloudy mixed in
No use whining or complaining
by the time we’re done, a change has come in.

I once was an uptight bastard
bottling up all my rage
I felt like some wild creature
was trapped in my steel-headed cage
I finally got bored with my anger
my sorrow and feeling alone
I now let the feelings flow through me
not a one am I required to own.
— G A Rosenberg

A bit of doggerel on an evening where I have been awake too many hours with too little sleep. Tho feeling it a bit as a song. Jung’s quote talks about coexisting with nature rather than hiding from it. I have long seen my emotions as being similar to weather patterns. If I acknowledge the negative emotions that come up and let them pass through, it can be liberating. It’s when I try to clamp down on anger or hurt or sorrow that I start to feel trapped. Eventually I end up clamping down so far that I get a case of mental constipation, the shit has no way of coming out.
That doesn’t mean I have to lash out at anyone or punch walls, it just means that I have to acknowledge my anger or frustration. I witness it, witness how it manifests and then go on to other things. With practice, it becomes easier. Since I have started doing this, my stomach hurts less and I get way less stress and sinus headaches. I feel more clear-headed and can better handle whatever has caused the stress in the first place. Of course having my art as an outlet doesn’t hurt either.

And So It Goes…

“Whither will my path yet lead me? This path is stupid, it goes in spirals, perhaps in circles, but whichever way it goes, I will follow it.”
— Hermann Hesse

Ghosts of old newscasters and older deceased novelists whisper to me “And so it goes”.
Statuses on Facebook reporting that most politicians are clones but they don’t say of whom or why it should matter. And so it goes.
Other voices telling me how this religion is evil and should be stopped. Of course most of the ones saying it believe that the beliefs they have are the right ones ignoring its dubious history.
And so it goes.
I hear the government is not out for the interests of its people but its own.
And so it goes
This seems to be true of most governments … and most corporations.. and most people and so it goes.
Most everything we put in or on our bodies is unhealthy for us not to mention the air we breathe and the water we drink
And so it goes.
There is a diet that will allow us to live healthier, longer and happier lives. There are a variety of opinions of what this diet is. And so it goes.
Most people seem to need to believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong. And so it goes.
Still like flowers or weeds we grow, pushing up through the cracks, surviving as long as we can the footsteps and anything else that may uproot us. We may have things stunting our growth but still we survive as long as we can and find the moments of joy and pleasure and peace we can and somehow within each of our lives there is growth despite or perhaps because of everything that comes our way.
And so it goes.

A Poem From the Other Side

“I am seeking, I am striving, I am in it with all my heart.”
— Vincent van Gogh

With half my heart
I took a step
and faltered
unsure of direction
I didn’t feel it
and so was frozen in place
I didn’t want it bad enough
and withdrew.
Life happened and years passed
Half-heartedly I lived them all
yet nothing called to me
and then something called to me
with siren’s voice
I could not resist
I threw myself in
with all of my existence striving
and striving
no holding back
I jumped
Falling in yet enjoying the ride
and still the call goes on.

From Conception to a Changed Reality

“A thought, even a possibility, can shatter and transform us.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche

If we can conceive of something, it exists if only in our imagination. If we can imagine something then we can interact with it and learn what makes it tick. If we can interact with something and know what makes it tick then we can create it and make it real and transform our lives. This is true of everything from the concept of freedom for someone who finds himself confined to the idea of food for those who are hungry. Now I’m not not saying that people who are starving can think themselves fed or that someone serving three lifetime sentences in jail can easily free themselves just that the very idea of these concepts can change their lives. Knowing that such things as freedom or a full belly exist and are possible can change one’s existence. This is one of the main principles not only behind magick but behind every movement or revolution that the world has seen.
