Tarot Post – The Universe

XXI-The Universe (♄)

The Universe (f)

The quest is finished
At this level completion
Journeys never end

I have made it through the quest
and now have reached the end
My journey is now complete.
Friends have helped me through
and I have found my way
Never thought I’d accomplish this feat.

The party has begun
This celebration of me
Accomplished I join the dance
Those last steps seemed so hard
I had almost given up
Glad I decided to take the chance.

Tomorrow I may find
a new quest to begin
a new level of self-discovery
for the circle never closes
the dance never ends
more layers to the eternal mystery
–G A Rosenberg

With the Aeon card, we find our purpose. With the Universe that purpose is realized. We have unified ourselves with our shadow, have discovered our potential and have realized it. Now there is a new and fuller understanding of who we are and our place in the universe. The great journey has ended and there is celebration. The limitations that we have placed on ourselves have been surpassed. We have greater insight into ourselves and the great dance continues.
However the ending is the beginning of something, always. The dance never stops and there are always new goals to reach for and further self-discovery and realization to reach for. The Universe inevitably leads back to the Fool in full circle and the journey forever begins anew for what appears to be a circle is actually a spiral that never ends.

Astrological Correspondence – Saturn (♄) – The Saturnian energy is that of the teacher. It gives us the life lessons we need in whatever sphere of influence it resides at the moment. Saturn shows us our limits and challenges us to face them and move beyond them. Saturn is also the ruler of time which in itself is a self-imposed limitation for most of us. It represents the wisdom of old age and the onset of maturity which can be thought of as the understanding of what it was all for. It governs to some extent personal responsibility and how well we live our ideals and principles and how well we communicate them through our actions.

Astrologically the element of Earth(Earth)is also connected with The Universe trump. In astrology, the influence of Earth nurtures us and grounds us. It focuses on the practical and attainable while helping us to achieve more. The Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn) are all involved with achievements of a practical nature and of our responsibility in the maintenance of it.

Runic Correspondence-Gebo(“Gift”)geboGebo means gift and ecstasy. It is gift in the idea of exchange of gifts, not in the sense of sacrifice as much as in the idea that by living our purpose and sharing what it is ours to give, we receive from the universal mother. It is a living exchange of beings each living to their highest purpose. Gebo is also a rune of harmony both internal and external. Other runes connected with the Universe trump are Hagalaz and Sowelho.

Path on the Tree of Life – Path 32-Tau-Tau means “signature” and it represents the final stamp on our being of who we are and who we are constantly in the state of becoming. It is the Path between the Sephiorth of Yesod(“Foundation”) and Malkuth (“Kingdom”) and represents the manifestation and materialization of everything that has gone before it. Tau also represents the cross of matter that is the training ground of our spirits. In the Sefer Yetzirah it is known as the Administrative Intelligence. It is also the path that links the physical to the astral plane and so deals with manifestations of archetypes and such matters as lucid dreaming.

When the Universe card turns up in a reading, it is usually an indication that a cycle has reached its successful completion. All the hard work and life lessons that have come are paying off and the querent is finding a sense of closure. It is a good time to celebrate the successes and start preparing for the journeys ahead. It can also indicate a time when the querent is in a good position to realize their place in the world and in the process they have just undergone. The Universe card may also mean that one’s emotions, mind, body and spirit are all working together in a harmonious way. The card basically indicates success in whatever area the reading pertains to. It may, depending on other cards and position indicate that one or two final blocks must be removed before the success can be realized. It can also indicate that a period of travelling the world lies ahead of the querent.

When the Universe is reversed, it may mean that the querent is standing in the way of their own success. Perhaps they are seeing or setting limitations on themselves that get in the way of their completing what they have set out to do. Perhaps they have come to the final steps of their journey and then stopped either because of fear or lack of self-confidence. There are times when a person’s life has become so defined by the journey that they are on that the final steps become all too difficult because it means that they will have to find a new way to define their lives. Reversed the potential shown in the Universe trump is still there it is just blocked in some way. The querent can follow the example of the dancer on the card and just dance their way through pretending that the limitations are not there.

Detaching From Success

“If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;”
— Rudyard Kipling “If”

I keep falling into the same trap. I get so caught up in wanting to do something right or optimally that I either freeze up and find myself putting things off or I set myself up to fail. This can pertain to anything from working on the tarot book to my interactions with my family. It seems that success comes easiest when it doesn’t matter whether I succeed or not. If I can detach from needing to succeed, then I give myself room to accomplish a lot more. Both personally and professionally.
Blessings, G

Tarot Post – Six of Pentacles

Six of Pentacles (Success)

Six of PentaclesSix of Pentacles (Revised) by G A Rosenberg

An Act of balance

Receive then pay it forward

Move forward, give back.

Giving
I see a need
that I can answer
Question?
No! Value exchanged
transmission
balance maintained
Payment always forward
as we are never the same
we give and receive
which is harder?
grace or graciousness
It’s all flow
we assign the worth
and so transform lives
especially our own
Receiving
I see a need that I can answer
You appreciate the chance to give back
we both exchange value
and balance is maintained

— G A Rosenberg

The suit of Pentacles refers to the element of Earth and of practical matters such as money and partnerships both of a business nature and of the home. They can also represent nature, the Earth itself as well as our bodies. Sixes represent balance and harmony. What does it mean to balance out practical matters? A large part of it has to do with how we interact with others, how we give and how we receive. Do we give because we perceive needs that we can fulfill and it only makes sense that we do so. Perhaps we remember when others have helped us out and by paying it forward we realize we can keep the cycle going. Perhaps we realize that even tho there is a perceived inequality that it is illusory, we gain as much in the giving as in the receiving. The scales balance out. Do we also realize that we need to learn to give in a way that will prove enabling and empowering to another as opposed to overbearing and disempowering. Sometimes in turn we help out more by not visibly helping. Determining those times requires discernment.
Can we receive without resentment? Can we admit that we are vulnerable and have needs that can only be fulfilled by others? Can we realize that in one way or another the scales always seem to balance and to realize we are custodians of the help received and will one day pass it on in turn?

Astrological Correspondence – Moon in Taurus – The Moon in Taurus energy is one that is confident and centred. It does not like interruptions to its routines but in its zone it excels. People with the Moon in Taurus in their charts tend to be generous with both their possessions and their advice which is often practical and methodical. It is an energy that tends to be resistant to change and to new things.

I Ching Correspondence – 42) Yi – Increasing –

_______
_______
___ ___
___ ___
___ ___
_______

The trigram for wind is over that of Thunder. The image is that of something below increasing at the expense of something above to the benefit of all. It is beneficial for this gain to be done with a greater purpose in mind. It is a good thing to help others make it through the day. It is an amazing thing to help others either build or rebuild their lives from the ground up. This does not mean doing the work for them as much as giving them the opportunity to do the work on their own..

When the Six of Pentacles comes up in a reading, it most often means that there is financial help being offered to those who need it and that it is an equitable exchange. It can mean that the person involved , who is usually someone who has found some success in their life is letting money flow through them, ie giving so that more can be received. The card can refer to success earned and success shared tho the success may be a transitory one.

When the Six of Pentacles is reversed in a reading, it may mean that the current period of success is coming to a close and it may help to look for a way to make it last, such as investment. It can also mean that one has gotten too caught up in material values and needs to attend more to higher pursuits as well

Quote of the Day – March 22 2013

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you. ”
― Oprah Winfrey

If you’re very lucky, you find love in whatever you do. As I experience more and more of life, I find that my capacity for love and enjoyment grows. I realize that that is not necessarily true of all people or even most tho I do have hopes that joy and love may be contagious. I definitely know of people who infect others with their sheer delight in life and I aspire to that.
I have been contemplating today what it means to succeed. Does it mean having enough of the energy that people associate with currency to do what ever whim strikes you? Does it mean a sense of fulfilment and self-actualization that is apart from any material considerations? I believe it is the latter much more than the former. Oh I have nothing against money. It has its uses.Seldom have I seen ownership of a great amount of it producing happiness, quite often quite the contrary.
I will trade in love, joy, abundance and gratitude and will have riches beyond measure
Blessings, G

Success — Artistic and Otherwise

Recently a few friends and I have started a weekly artistic round table of sorts. We check in with each other onc-day-a-week and discuss what we’ve worked on during the week, whatever challenges might have come up, and plans and goals for the next week. I love it. This has been just one of the factors that have helped me be so productive lately

My two cohorts in the coterie are Lori Buff of Future Relics Gallery, an enormously talented Potter and Web Designer and someone with whom I’ve been friends the longest. and  Deb Seiz of Moon Wolf Photography & Paintography whose creations are quite beautiful. Anyway recently on her Future Relics Blog Lori had a wonderful article that explores what is success from an artistic point of view. (Go ahead and read the article and check out some of the lovely pieces that Lori has made, also check out Deb’s photographs / paintographs, I’ll wait here.

After writing the article, Lori sent email to Deb and myself asking for replies. I find the subject intriguing enough (the question of what makes for a successful life has been something that I’ve struggled with for quite some time) that I’d like to share the exchange with you

Deb answered:

Hmmm…

Ponder…

Ponder…

“Success” to me is creating something that didn’t exist before, therefore making the World a NICER place.

Further success would be knowing that someone thought enough of my work to pay $ vfor it and hang it on their wall.

FURTHER Success would be to make ENOUGH $ so that i can make more sizeable charitable donations to the folks who do the TRULY IMPORTANT work of saving other species.

ULTIMATE SUCCESS would be all of that, plus recognition of my work – MY version of “Immortality”….

My Reply:

Damn I like Deb’s answer =)

Seriously, This one I struggle with so much

OK success artistically–people you know like what you produce and give you positive feedback–then the next step–strangers like what you produce and the same–then people whom themselves produce things your respect etc — then selling some commercially (tho some of the artists who museums hunger for were not commercially successful in their lifetimes)

What part does artistic integrity play in this, holding true to your vision?

Does money = a successful life?

I really like Deb’s answer about charity and even more about creating something that didn’t exist before?

That means to me, that we are successful every time we make another person smile especially if they were hurting before

and making laughter exist where it wasn’t before? a miracle and riches beyond belief

OK Gary, you’re getting impractical

Success to me would appear to be a matter of having enough. Enough time,  money and space to be able to do what we love. Loving and Feeling love enough (and for so many of us, allowing ourselves to feel love seems so much harder, convincing ourselves that we deserve it )Enough connection to spirit so that what we do has meaning.

Material success, ok, Charity, very cool, Shining out as ourselves and bringing more love and light to the world, priceless =)

Hope that was practical enough

Peace, Love and Blessings,

G
