Changing Perspectives

“Two men looked out from prison bars,
One saw the mud, the other saw stars.”
— Dale Carnegie

Down does’t work for me
spent too much time there
staring at my feet
Morose, lonely, angry
screw that noise.
How about up?
Nah, I’ve had my head in the clouds
smiling benignly at those below
amazing from the outside
rectal cranial inversion
a perversion I don’t want to share
In, Out too lateral
a locked one sided view
I’m working on a new vision
True vision
where down keeps me humble
and up keeps me light
in keeps me honest
and out grounds me right
the left gives me knowledge
and the right gives me hope
The sun shows direction
and the moon sets the dream.

Point of Surrender — Some Frustration Doggerel

“What could I say to you that would be of value, except that perhaps you seek too much, that as a result of your seeking you cannot find.”
― Hermann Hesse

Looking too hard for answers.
Lost in the trees
with no forest in sight.
Trying to hard for achievement
looking to make myself right.
I waste so much time on becoming
that I forget just how to be.
Losing myself in the seeking
Could I find myself in the me
Letting it all go
Letting it all flow
Hitting that zero sport
Untying the frayed knot
Throwing my hands up in the air
Caring so much that I don’t care
Reaching that point of surrender
My spirt now can be rendered

Drifting…

“Sometimes you simply need to drift aimlessly, in order to reach the destination of aim.”
― Lionel Suggs

On a night when the rain comes down
and the stars remain silent
I let my mind drift
reflecting on my soul’s colours
and the stories I have yet to write.
There is a greyness to the moment
but I don’t seem to mind.
Not every second can be filled with purpose
and nothing pressing before the morrow’s sun
I can think of loved ones’ smiles
or the needs of the many
and I will…everything in time
yet for now I will wander
until the night calls me home.

Drawing the Moon

“The moon likes secrets. And secret things. She lets mysteries bleed into her shadows and leaves us to ask whether they originated from otherworlds, or from our own imaginations.”
— Charles de Lint

The moon runs through my veins
and gives me succour.
In the dark she draws me in
and enlivens me
We whispers in the night hours
She keeps my confidences
as I walk beneath her
In her fullness her tides draw me
and racede as she grows dark
She is ever changing yet constant
as her face becomes veiled
Each aspect entrances me
in new ways.
With Diana I hunt
my being for new depths
To Isis I ask for protection
Hecate draws my secret being
and plants the seed for change.

Silent Hearts Screaming

I thought I would be understood without words.
— Vincent Van Gogh

In silence, hearts reach out screaming
for understanding.
Stretching forward, emoting like mimes in a fire
they gesture and
call for attention from…anyone
no in each case it is a specific need
a special type who will know them
and answer wordlessly in return.
Yet the clown hearts keep burning
tho sometimes another comes
silently, they put out the flames
and mutely answer the call.
a heart has found another
something of beauty is created.

Self-Created

All these people you are concerned about,
Did they create you?
— al Ghazāli

Self created
mind blown
Shall I become
the image that you all see?
You each describe me
as blind men describe an elephant
mistaking the part you know
for the whole.

Self created
unchanged
by the demands
towards conformity
I am too busy
discovering myself to live
up to the expectations
of others

Self created
yet inspired
that you care
enough to see me at all
perhaps in time
you’ll see beyond the mold
you’ve cast
and it may set us free
