Beautiful Harbingers

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
― Maya Angelou

Fear in becoming
the ever changing
metamorphosis
Who am I and What will I become?
Uncertainty yet in the moment
ok
Roll with it and let it happen
for it will
no matter how much we sweat it
Moth or Butterfly
we are still yet embryos of what is to come
beautiful harbingers
of an unknown future.

Making It Through

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
— Maya Angelou

Survival Tips

  • No matter what happens know that you are a survivor. You have made it through this far no matter what life has thrown at you and you are still going.
  • There is always a funny aspect to anything. Work on cultivating the ability to see it even if it is black humour in the darkest of times.
  • Know that you are never truly alone. Even if you have no family and no one whom you identify as a friend, it is always possible to find someone to talk to whether it be professionals at the end of a phone line or a stranger.
  • Prayer to the deity or entity of your choice helps. It doesn’t have to be prayer, it can merely be a conversation but you are communicating with something. Even if you don’t believe anything is there, talk to the universe, scream to the skies it helps to get it out
  • At any given point of crisis, ask yourself how you are. At any given moment, the answer is fine. What has us freaked out is usually thoughts of what happened before or fear of what happens next. At this moment tho, if you can ask the question, the answer is that you are doing ok.
  • At times of high stress, it is difficult if not impossible to make long range plans. Just figure out the next thing you have to do and do that. Tunnel vision can be enormously effective when necessary in the short term.
  • Remember that life is an adventure. Every adventure has rough parts. Sometimes the trick is to remain curious as far as what can happen next.

Allowing Fantasy

“If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform a million realities.”
― Maya Angelou

Hoping where hope is not possible
can change everything
knowing a better way can exist
even in the darkest hour
can make living tolerable
A dream of freedom
when one’s life is chains
can make one fly
to many lands
pushing joyfully against
the binds
knowing that it can happen
Knowing that love exists
when stuck among loathing
can keep the dream alive
yearning for the day
when one’s heart is answered
Knowledge in the face of ignorance
that something imagined can be real
can build the dreams
and break the chains
and open the heart
to new being.

Yesterday Selves and Tomorrow Mes

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
― Maya Angelou

Today I surrender who I’ve been for who I am. Tomorrow I’ll do the same.There is joy in the surrender but also sorrow. There is pain that I’ve grown so accustomed to that it has become a friend. Letting go of it is akin to losing a loved one. I know tho that I’ll be better without it and the scar will be cool. I will sacrifice innocence for inner sense tho I long to regain it. Trust gives way to wariness and finds its way back like waves along the shore. Like so many things tho it is not an on/off binary switch but a dimmer switch with many graduations. I’ve learned who to trust and how much. Thus I’ve gained wisdom which is beautiful tho have lost a stunning naiveté My love also has gained depth and focus and perhaps expansion as well. With luck and an openness to learn, age gives dimensionality. We become less stock actors and more and more ourself. Yet nothing worthwhile comes without a price. So I will mourn my yesterday selves and know that I will join them. Someone looked on in fondness by the tomorrow mes.

Feelings

“Let’s tell the truth to people. When people ask, ‘How are you?’ have the nerve sometimes to answer truthfully. You must know, however, that people will start avaoiding you because, they, too, have knees that pain them and heads that hurt and they don’t want to know about yours. But think of it this way: If people avoid you, you will have more time to meditate and do fine research on a cure for whatever truly afflicts you.”

Manifesting the Dream

“If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform a million realities.”
― Maya Angelou

I reflect often how lucky I am. I have seen so many dreams come true and know so many people who can make it happen. One group of people I know have taken great strides in helping people with disabilities determine their own lives, working at jobs that are worthwhile and adding to their communities. I know more who are doing their bits to make life just a little bit more healthier and safer in third-world nations. Others who every day by realizing their dreams, which started as a fantasy in one person’s mind make life better for so many others.
This lifts me when I am feeling down and believe that a) I don’t make a difference and b) the things that I hope for are hopeless and c) that I don’t have the power to affect others. More and more I realize I do and can and what a gift it is. Even in minor ways, when someone tells me that something I wrote impacted on them in even a minor way it feels so empowering. What is art but dreams created?
In one of my favourite plays “Sunday in the Park with George” by Stephen Sondheim, Georges Seraut the artist sings about being lost in his work, and how people misunderstand what he is doing. In the end, he says “Look I made a hat where there never was a hat.” It’s all about seeing what isn’t there, working to put it there and thus transforming reality. Nothing is more powerful than our dreams when we are willing to work to manifest them.

Quote of the Day – December 6 2012

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou

Finding out where i’m supposed to be
and its here
all of my choices have brought me here
all the battles I have fought
all the teachings I have sought
everything I’ve lost and won
everything I dropped once begun
all my wishes all my prayers
all my sadness all the layers
the liars and soothsayers
all brought me to this place
were really forms of grace
allowing me to face
eternity and that’s here

~~~
More and more home becomes a state of mind. One that denotes comfort, love and warmth and familiarity. Sometimes we have to leave this state in order to appreciate it more and sometimes we never find it.  In my life, I have been fortunate to meet a few people who wore their homes like turtles wherever they went. Those people always seemed present in everything they said or did. That inspires me more than I can say. I wish everyone the chance to find their inner home.
Quote of the Day – August 14 2012
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
― Maya Angelou
One of the most important things I have learned is how to lose my attachment to being right. If the universe is truly impossible to comprehend more than one part at a time as R Buckminster Fuller said than at most anything we say or think will only be part of the whole therefore even when it is mostly right, it is a little bit wrong. If you like learning, it’s awesome, it means there is always more to learn and a more accurate view that can be developed. Of course the question begs to be asked that if you don’t like learning, why did you sign up for this trip in the first place?
Hmmmm I wonder if there’s a lesson in that. I mean if life in the physical on earth is a school and we chose to be here, does that make all of us humans cosmic nerds? There’s something appealing about that thought somehow. 🙂
Human By Design by G A Rosenberg
Quote of the Day – May 28 2012
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
-Maya Angelou
Silent child stares
unable to speak what he sees
nighttime terror grows
Smile my angel
Your eyes speak the many tales
that never pass lips
Held tight within me
Magical stories hidden
Take my offered key
Just for a second imagine being locked away from your creativity. Unable to express the pain or joy that we each store up in a lifetime by word or deed.  It’s there to be expressed yet for some reason it cannot be.  How can we help another find their voice?
